Hi, I'm new to this site and pretty much starting over as far as getting healthy. I had always been active, but never worried about my health until I lost my wife and was left with a 18 month daughter and a 6 year old son to raise. I let myself go for 2 years and my health started suffering. My cardiologist got my attention when he asked if I had picked out someone to take care of my children when I died, that got me motivated to start moving around. I have a long way to go to get where I want to be, but as long as I have those two, I'll get there.

Thank you all for the welcome and the kind words. So far this site is helping me to figure out the direction I need to be going, and really pay attention to what I eat. I'll be glad to add new friends as soon as I can figure out how to do it, have a great weekend!

Welcome. Sorry about the loss of your wife but it sounds like the kids may be motivation enough. While I am 15 years older and our kids are 17 they are a driving force for me to learn how to eat right in front of them before they leave home. If they abuse carbs the way I have for most of my life and develop related health issues they at least will have my example even if late how to change a life long eating habit for the better. My weight is slowly dropping but my pain levels are down from 7-8+ to 2-3 on a 1-10 scale most all days already.

Thanks for sharing your story. For some weight loss and learning how to keep it off is more a looks thing which is fine when young. For others of us it truly is a matter of life and death because of the health issues that have come from a life time of poor eating habits.
