Hi,
So I'm looking to have protein and fat meals for breakfast before the gym in the morning. Apart from eggs have any of you got ideas of what I can eat?
I have a protein shakes straight after my workout but was thinking of switching that to my pre gym breakfast instead and have eggs afterwards.
Have any of you tried coconut oil in your protein shake at all?
Thanks in advance

Meat and cheese roll ups, take a slice of string cheese and a fe slices of sandwich meat and roll them up, makes a handy finger food.
I used to snack on PB and crackers on my way to the gym in the early morning hours.0 -
Didn't think of meat for breakfast actually. My trainer has suggested having a high protein and fat breakfast before the gym. I'm a fan of fry-up but eating too much before my workout isn't good.
I'll defo try the roll ups0 -
MIx one cup plain greek yogurt (average of about 20g+ of protein) with you favorite protein and throw in a serving of peanut butter.0
-
Chicken and avocado wrap.0
-
Yogurt and PB - Yum. Something I haven't had in a while.
I'm not a fan of chicken cold to be honest but defo love avocado.
Thanks for the ideas everyone0 -
steak n eggs with a side of hashbrowns?0

for the win and most likely easiest on the stomach pre workout.0 -
Walnuts. They sustain me well. I have them nearly every morning.0
-
I like nuts but they only sustain me for about an hour and that's when I've eaten before hand. I'm sure if I have them with something else they would work0
-
I've eaten steak and eggs before for breakfast but only on my rest days simply due to time and the fact eggs can repeat on me.
I'm liking the yogurt idea actually as its easy to do every morning0 -
Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein bars, tuna ... these are high in proteins .... Need to find something to make them high fat. Bacon ?

I can't eat before I workout or I get stomach cramps. When I work out hard I eat AFTER a lot of protein (meat, eggs, cheese, Greek yogurt) and a small carb serving (veggies, fruit, potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweet potatoes.) I make sure to get daily allowance of magnesium and sodium. Potassium too. that will also affect energy.0

Cindy - have you tried eating something small before you work out? I struggle if I don't eat before the gym as I get really bad nausea which affects my workout. \I eat afterwards as well but as I go to the gym at 6:30 before work there is only a certain amount I can eat on my drive to work which is when I drink my protein shake0

Umm ive not had cottage cheese for ages but cant remember if I grew to like it or not. Guess I'll be adding it to my shopping list tomorrow0

guess bacon will be added to my shopping list as well then.
Any other ideas?0 -
I have loads of protein powder so was thinking of swapping that as my post exercise meal and having it before the gym with some kind of fat added to it.
My freezer is stocked up with 10kg of chicken but as I said before I don't like it cold. Thinking the rolls ups are a good idea.
least bacon and sausages can be eaten on the way to the gym which is good.
Thanks for your help dbmata0 -

I do 4 tablespoons of coconut oil in my coffee/cocoa drink. DO NOT do 4 but taper into the use of coconut oil at first.
Shakes I just do with a spoon and protein powder because do not to wash the bender if we even have one that works.:)
Eggs and bacon are awesome anytime.

I have not tried since the 'breakfast" trial in which I was supposed to force myself like 30-50g of protein. I thought the idea was bunk after I tried it and went back to eating when I felt like it. I don't want to eat ANYTHING in the morning, i drink coffee with coconut milk and try to cope with reality. If I work out after work, after eating all day, I can't do as much I feel weighed down unless I watch it and fast for a few hours. I am naturally a night owl and work 1p-9p, sleep 2a up to 11:30a depending. I might be up all night, or I may be in early.0

I like a big break fast. Growing up on a farm following a mule all morning plowing tobacco or like work teaches one to eat a big breakfast so you can last to the noon meal (dinner time).0

Jamaican beef patty. 360-380 cals - 12 g protein, 17 grams fat

Top it up with half a cup of 0% Greek yogurt for another 13-16 grams of protein and you're easily fueled on less than 500 cals - for your workout and probably til lunch. I personally don't find them 'heavy', either, just tasty and filling.0 -

4 tablespoons of coconut oil and you somehow like to eat a big breakfast. There are so many better ways to use those 500 calories. And with your caloric target being low it makes an even worse idea.
I am going to do the coconut oil for my pain and other reasons like IBS, etc and I do not want to go over my 2400 daily calories or I will not lose any weight. The coconut oil is a wonderful idea or I would not be doing it. Do some reading on the subject to get the full picture of eating for health.
