I'm working on correcting my bad eating habits. The big one is junk eating at night. But today I also had a small victory because I went to the movies and didn't either drink Coke or eat candy or popcorn. I understand that if you plan for the calories you can eat this stuff but that was never the case for me, pure add-on calories and mindless eating. Usually I would eat most of it before the end of the previews and didn't actually eat during the film!

Hey well done you - not only have you saved all those empty calories, you've also probably saved yourself a small fortune because cinemas often charge a lot for the popcorn/drinks etc. Why don't you put the equivalent amount into a little jar and at the end of the month treat yourself - even just a new nail polish or some make-up can feel like a real reward for changing bad habits. Good luck!

Echoing above; not only did you save some extra calories for your day, but you also probably saved around $8 by not purchasing those items. Good job! :)

Congrats! I had a similar breakthrough yesterday, although it sort of backfired: instead of popcorn and soda, I brought with me a bottle of water and a box of fresh grapes. I ended up eating the whole 1lb box of grapes. It's a lot better than eating the popcorn, but I definitely wasn't planning on eating that much! I think I'll also be setting up a popcorn/nacho/chocolate money jar and putting the money in the jar every time I overcome the urge to purchase those things.

I could also start a jar to put money in that I was spending at drive-throughs and convenience stores! Wow, I would be rich in no time. ; - )

Good job! I remember those small achievements as well! I was so proud of myself when I cut out my daily icecream desserts!

I almost never eat popcorn during a movie. I don't need it, and it's harder to hear the dialogue over crunching! ;)

It's pretty easy to skip the popcorn at the theaters here. Even the plain is so greasy it just ends up making me queasy. Now a box of Raisinettes is another story...!

Well done! And like fatcity66, it's more like 15 for popcorn and Coke here. I'm lucky enough that I hate the way it sticks in my teeth so I'm a cheap date.

I find that the way to counter my junk food craving at night is to leave enough calories for cheese and an apple or crackers. It turns out that I just really like eating at night.

I like eating at night, too, but it's like a gateway drug for me. Eating a smart snack just makes me want to eat more.

Yeah, those second and third smart snacks are how they get you.
