what do you mean by toning? Do you want to lose fat so you can see your muscles more? Or do you want to put muscle on? Toning has a different meaning to most people0

Lifting is definitely the way to go! Do you go to a gym? Do you work out at home? Both? Need a little more info from you, but just start either searching this site or Google beginning weight lifting programs. Using strictly your body weight works great, too, especially when you're first starting out. If you provide us with more details maybe more help can be given. Thanks!0

Since you're wanting to lose fat to see the muscles more, I'd suggest cardio as a primary (running, jump rope, swimming, dancing, you name it) and with weight lifting like Stronglifts 5x5 or calisthenics (maybe You Are Your Own Gym) 2 - 3 times a week to maintain your current muscle. Also important - eating in a calorie deficit (the cardio helps you create the deficit).0

I am starting to work out at home and slowly will start running. Due to ny schedule cant really make it to the gym on a regular basics so i exercise as much as i can. I use to go to 24 hours but the one closest to my work their equipment was usually always broken down0

Obviously eat at a deficit. I suggest the TDEE - X% method and then a lifting routine.0

There's a norm on MFP to be very against the concept of "toning", so you're going to get some obtuse replies.
The accepted wisdom is that there are two reasons you don't look toned (as the word is generally understood). You are too fat and therefore fat is covering your muscles or your muscles are too small and therefore can't be seen, even after your fat has gone. Losing weight always means you lose lean body tissue, as well as fat, so this is easily done.
So, MFP users recommend that as well as losing weight (for fat loss) you try to maintain as much muscle tissue as possible by lifting heavy weights at the same time.

Eat at a calorie deficit. Pick up heavy things and put them down again. Repeat.-1
