Losing weight without calorie restriction?

Hi guys

I'm looking for friends to help keep me motivated! I lost weight a while ago, about 45 pounds to be exact, but I didn't do it the healthy way. I pretty much starved myself and I was miserable. Needless to say, I've gained about 20 pounds back, because I let myself eat and indulge (a little too much, admittedly). Anyway, now I've made it my resolution to lose weight healthily; without much restriction and without cutting anything out. I only see people eating 1200 calories a day and cutting out carbs and sugar and stuff... that's not my scene. I would love some friends who are like-minded; more focused on the quality of what they're eating instead of on a number. Note: I am not vegan or raw or anything. I am just a normal person seeking a normal relationship with food. I also happen to be a foodie.

I will not cut out food types or groups. Now, there is a difference between calorie restriction and cutting out foods. The only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than your burn. I, for example, am planning on getting McDonalds for dinner tomorrow. :) I just plan on having a smaller lunch so I can enjoy my burger. Calorie restriction is simply making sure to eat fewer calories, whereas FOOD restriction is limiting yourself by macros, sodium, sugar, fat, carbs, or so-called "bad" foods. I agree, starving is never the way to go. Just be careful with proportions and remembering why you want to do this. Good luck!

Agreed. For me, I have to eat foods I love to stay motivated. I just eat less of it.

We have the same mentality. I feel the same. I am following IIFYM and on a 2000 diet. Re: tdee. I want to focus on the quality of food and not only the calories.

Calorie counting is not for me. We cook all our meals, so to have to painstakingly measure each and every ingredient and then input it to see cal count just is t going to happen. I do restrict certain foods. I cut way down on processed carbs, cut out dairy almost entirely, and also limit alcohol and sugar. But limiting isn't the same as removing from my diet. I think I'm like you- I'm not looking to quickly lose weight this time around- I'm hoping to create a lifestyle shift I can keep. I was a model in my 20s, so I could lose weight quick and unhealthfully if I wanted to- we all learn how to do that- but I'd be right back where I am in a few months.
    - My goals are: eat mindfully; do exercise 6 days a week.
    - If I can maintain these goals all month, I might adjust to do more next month:)

Hi I dont deny myself anything and have 1760 cals a day, i am losing about 1.5lbs a week, was 2lbs to start with, i dont feel starved and its a whole life change thing for me, so this is it for the rest of my days lol! which is why i cant dent myself things, restricting only leads to failure for me. So I am taking the sensible path this time, and this site sure has helped. x

Its all very well not calorie counting, but by default you are only going to lose weight if you are at a deficit. You are denying yourself that information. Are you going to just use trial and error? Will you guess how much you should eat or just until you arent hungry?
Will you be doing much exercise?

Well you have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. You however don't have to starve yourself. I've lost 80 pounds and never had to eat less than 1650 calories (and I'm 36).
