Can I lose 10 pounds in a month?

I've started dieting two months ago and went from 160 to my current weight of 147. I wanna lose 10 pounds before February 10. I excercise a bit but I mostly rely on dieting. Is this achievable? Any tips on how to make this work?

That would require you to lose over 2lbs per week. It's not recommended to lose more than 2lbs per week. I think 4-8lbs is a more achievable goal in the given time frame.0

absolutely just have to set your mind to it and work everyday0

Katie, Remember every pound is equal to 3500 Calories, so to lose 2 pounds a week you have to deficit your body by 500 calories daily consistently. You can do this through a combination of what you are eating and added exercise. Doing drastic weight loss by seriously reducing your calories can cause you to lose muscle rather than fat. Your body thinks it is starving so holds onto the fat cells. Then when you return to your normal eating pattern it will come back on fast and ugly because your body reacts by storing extra fat so it won't starve. To do the drastic weight loss plans a medical supervision program is best.0

You probably can, but you will probably also gain it right back because of the deprivation you will have to do get there. What is so magical about Feb 10th?0
-
That's completely possible! You just have to cut back and stay completely focused. Eat completely clean and exercise!!0

What's so special about February 10th?
If you started 2 months ago, probably some of those initial 13 pounds you lost were from water weight right at the outset. In all likelihood you're averaging about 1lb/week of true loss.
So no, I'd say, you shouldn't put undue pressure on yourself. There's nothing magical about arbitrary numbers or timelines. Just keep at it, slow and steady, and take the weight off the right way, which will help you keep it off.0 -
I did 6 in a month and that was really fast. I'm pretty sure 10 is either unhealthy or no doable. Especially when it's the last 10...

You probably can, and for 1 month of losing 10 lbs I don't think that would be unhealthy. If you wanted to lose 10 lbs a month for 6 months I might have a different opinion.
I don't think apple day is healthy, that is a ton of sugar but you could try reduced carbs along with the reduced calories, that should help!0 -

Sure, be dedicated every day. On the last day do one of those body wrap things. You will lose a bunch of water weight. Next day you will gain a bunch back of course. Is this for a competition?0

I think she's referring to the 6 apples and water plan proposed above...

Losing 10 pounds in a month is possible and it isn't particularly unsafe as long as a woman is eating at least 1200 calories a day while doing it. In order to accomplish it, one would need a 1130 calorie per day deficit. Much of that would have to some from exercise, so a person would need to put in about two hours of exercise on most days.

I suppose it is possible, but why on earth do you want to? Did you gain those ten pounds in a month?0

You lost 13 lbs in two months. At this success rate why not successfully lose about 6 lbs in one more month?
I say 6 is doable with out much harm. 10 is doable if you already have a lot to loose and are not at that pesky last 10 lbs to get off...

With only a goal of 22 more lbs you should not be aiming for any more than 1lb/week.
The less you have to lose the slower you should lose to avoid a larger % of the loss coming from lean muscle.0 -
I gained 40 pounds over two months and then kept it for 5 years before managing to get rid of it. Am I trying to lose the 20 I want to ditch (I was seriously underweight before the gain) in the same time period? Hell, no. I started in early October and am down 13 pounds so far...a good, healthy, long-term pace.
Seriously, what is up with all the "I need to lose tons of weight FAST" posts lately. I'm newish, does this happen every new year?0 -

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. Seems like today is the day to want to do it in a certain about of time. I wish people would realize that your body will do what it wants when it wants.

Yes, it is possible to lose 10 lbs. in one month if you can increase your cardio to bump up your metabolism. I just lost 10 lbs. since the first of the year, by cutting daily calories 400-800 less than recommended requirement and increasing protein and water to decease hunger.
If your profile is accurate, you are a 54 year old man. Please don't give this kind of advice to the OP, who is a teenage girl. This approach can lead to yo-yo weight loss, terrible habits that can span a lifetime, and even EDs.

I've only been here since June, but I assume that this does happen every year. What surprises me is all the newbies giving terrible advice. Like, seriously? They've been losing weight for less than two weeks and they already think they know everything?0 -
I don't know any of you, and I am not a professional health anything. however, based on what i read, 10 lbs in a month is NOT doable or healthy. whatever the reason for the specific date, OP, just be as healthy as you can. bump up the exercising instead of just relying on the eating.0

OP just do it safe and healthy. Its possible to do it but either unsafe or you would not be able to manage the sheer amount of exercise needed. As you get loser to target then it gets harder. By your own admission you dont exercise much, so its not going to happen. Dont do anything foolish like trying to crash diet, but be smart and lose it in a healthy way imo. These boards are frequented by numerous teenage girls who have unrealistic expectations and EDs, dont become one of them.0

Loosing 10 pounds of fat in a month would require extreme dieting. The 2pounds/week goal is really difficult for an average sized person (not obese). Set a more realistic goal and aim for 2 months!0
-
Welcome to the boards!! I see this is your first post, so I want to encourage you to check out some of the stickies (see announcements) at the top of the board to get some ideas on sustainable weight loss.
You can definitely lose 10 lbs in a month. I have, but I did it by cutting my calories too much and I gained it back and much more.0 -

If you lose more than 2 lbs. a week, then it could be water weight that you're losing. The only way to lose TRUE fat is to lose no more than 2 lbs. a week. Any more than that, and it could be muscle since your body can't survive on 200 calories a day!0
-
the amount of blind support in this thread without even realizing where OP is and where she is trying to go is amusing...0

It's not totally impossible, but it's not recommended and why put yourself under than kind of unnecessary pressure? Keep in mind that it took you 2 months to lose 13 lbs. That's 6.5 lbs/month--absolutely commendable, but also not the 10lbs you now seek. To lose that extra 3-4lbs takes A LOT of work, especially since as you get smaller, weight loss tapers off/slows. Just keep focusing on hitting your food and exercise goals and let the chips fall where they may. I used to think like this all the time and I was always disappointed and I wouldn't give myself credit for what I had achieved, instead I'd just focus on where I fell short.0
