I just found this thread, so even though this is my 6th day on mfp, I am still a newbie. :) I am excited and would love to meet other people on this same journey. I am married, 35 years old, mother of 4, and weigh 435 lbs. My goal is to weigh 125 lbs by next summer. I want to lose weight to save my life. So please add me if you want. I can use all the encouragement I can get, and I hope to be an inspiration and an encouragement to others. One more thing, it has only been 6 days since I started this journey, and I have already lost 10lbs. No diet pills, no surgery.....if I can do it, anyone can. Have a blessed day!

You CAN do it. MyFitnessPal makes it simple. Not going to say its easy, but it is simple, counting calories and eating at or just a bit under your daily calorie goal.

If you mess up, DO NOT QUIT. Start again, either right away, later that day, or the next morning. DO NOT QUIT. You don't have to be perfect to lose weight. I mean, you don't have to get every day's calories exactly right, especially if you have a lot to lose and are just starting out. Any amount you cut back will result in weight loss.

After a while it will get easier, and you can make more changes if you need to. For now, just weigh your food so you are positive you are eating the amount you think you are, look up the food in the database and be sure to select the correct entry (there are some goofy ones and some inaccurate ones) and do the best you can. You will be thrilled in no time!

  • Thanks all! I went over my calories by 49 already .. The hard part is to not snack tonight.
Is there a place on this app/ website that gives "better food options" and do or should I log wine!!!

Of course log wine. Remember, the food diary is for your own personal use. Its a great historical record of what you were eating when you lost or gained, over time. I like to go back and see what my food choices were during different periods of loss or stalls. I also try to log my water intake for the same reason. Have been slacking on that a bit lately and need to tighten up the water logging, because if I don't log it I can't review it later.

Going over by 49 calories is no big deal. Having no calories left for the evening if you are hungry is harder. Hopefully you just told yourself you can have it tomorrow.
