P90X Resistance Bands

I have to buy some resistance bands because I cannot do pull-ups the "normal" way on a bar. Part of it is that I am not strong enough yet, but another (irremediable) part of it is that I have a slight congenital deformity in my right arm that makes it impossible for me to turn my arm all the way so that my palms face myself for Reverse Grip Chin-Ups.

Anyways, I am going to buy the resistance bands from BeachBody because, quite frankly, I can get more of them for my money than I can at the sporting goods stores. I am wondering which of the sets people think I should get (remember I am planning to use these as a substitute for real pull-ups, so I want it to be almost as hard as a real pull-up, but I also don't want it to be too hard). The options are:

* Standard Kit contains a range of resistance bands from 15 to 30 pounds.
* Super Kit contains a range of resistance bands from 20 to 40 pounds.
* Extreme Kit contains a range of resistance bands from 40 to 50 pounds.

I am thinking the Extreme Kit would be the right one for the purpose I am planning. I weigh 163 pounds, so my thinking is that using the 50 pound resistance band would be the equivalent to doing a pull-up as a 100 pound person.

Thoughts?
Thank you!

Will you be using the bands for any other workouts or just pull-ups? If just pull-ups, the Extreme would probably be fine assuming you're strong enough to do 8-12 "pull-ups" with those bands...which can be deceptively tough and "heavy". If you're using the kit for other exercises, I'd suggest the Super since 40-50 lb bands will likely be way too tough for arm exercises.

I would get the Extreme Kit as well. You are going to get stronger week by week and you will find that the others will be too easy and it won't be effective at all.
    Good luck!

All I can say is invest in some quality bands. I am sure the ones they sell are good quality... but I had to be cheap and buy a band from Target...$12.99 and it snapped as I was doing the modified pull ups with it! After only 8 uses! thank god it snapped AWAY from me, and snapped the wall, not my face!!!

I assume by complete kit you mean all three sets? Not in the budget right now. But I do have a full set of dumbells for everything other than pull-up work.

Of if that is the case then go with the Heavy set. There is also something at ****'s Sporting Good or Sports Authority called a pull assist. It comes as part of the new Insanity, but I have seen it at these stores as well. It is suppose to be really good I posted about it on my facebook fanpage.

I don't have a doorframe that I am confident will hold a pull up bar...plus, as I said in my oroginal post, my weird right arm makes certain pull-ups simply impossible due to range of motion. :)
