working out with herniated disc

:s working out well trying to maintain weight while having a herniated disc. Cannot do weights..squats... sit ups :-( any advice will help please. ..thank you.

    I bike when I can, or recumbent at the gym, I just started stability ball work to strenghtn core, I walk, run if I can, yoga, swim, anything that doesn't cause pain or aggravate it. Avoid bending lifting and twisting.

    You might look into physical therapy, I just started and feel it will pay off.

    I've had a herniated disk for years. I do weights and squats, among other things. If you aren't actively in pain, then you can do lots. Form and common sense are crucial. There are things I avoid, like sit ups, but you can do much more than you think. In fact, some of those things will actually help your back to feel better in the long run. Definitely see a physical therapist to get started.
