I can't give it up. I'm trying to find a substitute to reduce my sugar intake. I drink a lot of coffee. I can't put any kind of milk in because it makes me sick. I've tried soy, almond, and coconut. Any thoughts?

Why do you have to give it up? just work into your calories deficit :)

Learn to drink it black, or work it into your day.
  • Have you tried bulletproof coffee? You blend your coffee with coconut oil and it makes it creamy! I heard this is the best option for people and they seem to love it! Me....I like my coffee black!

Yeah but it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more calories. OP is probably only getting 30-50 cals now. I switched to sugar free (~15 cals) and/or flavored coffees that only require splenda because full-fat full-sugar coffees weren't worth the calories to me.

I'm in the same boat as you except well I like sugar and creamer in my coffee. I kicked it for a week then couldn't handle the coffee anymore. Just fit it in your day.

You can try coffee mate. It is dairy free and they have sugar free flavors.

I use the fake partially hydrogenated oil stuff in powder form. I'm so used to it, I actually prefer it over half and half. I will also drink my coffee black. If the coffee is good and bean are freshly ground, it's delicious. Problem is, most coffee is crap. Yes, I'm a coffee snob who uses fake cream, hehehe!

That's a hard habit to kick. I went from drinking that sugary creamer stuff to heavy whipping cream and sweet n low to now just black with sweet n low. It can be done! Takes time and patience. Just gotta lower the amount of cream little by little. It's not like the fake sugar is any better but it has less calories. Good luck! One day I will drink it straight black.......MAYBE!

Switch to sugar-free if you like, or just reduce the amount you use. I do both of these pretty interchangeably -- sugar-free creamer is my standby, but if there's a great flavor of the regular stuff I buy it, measure it, log it, and enjoy it. After a couple weeks of adjusting, a tablespoon per 16oz cup tastes just fine and dandy.

wean yourself off little by little. I used to like mine like a milk shake. Now I drink it with a single half and half.

I use Coffeemate creamers. They come in sugar-free and fat-free flavors. I use splenda in my coffee, then add a creamer. My fav is Caramel Macchiato!!

  • Thanks everyone! I'll try cutting back. I drink coffee at work, so switching to flavored or different coffee won't work. I will also try the sugar free.

You could always try cutting back until you don't need as much at a time. It depends what brand you are using, too. Original CoffeeMate only has about 1g per serving (which is a tbsp). And the fat-free version has none. Most of the flavored versions looks like they have about 5g/serving which could add up. There are sugar free versions but then you're getting artificial sweeteners. So I guess you have to choose your battles. I work it in because I really enjoy my morning coffee. And there are other things that I'd rather sacrifice that will have a bigger impact- like donuts.

I use Nestle coffee mate it is lactose free. I don't buy the off brand kinds bc they are just not as creamy or tasty as Coffee-mate. I love my coffee and wouldn't dream of giving it up it helps with my weight loss by acting as a appetite suppressant I don't get hungry I put two teaspoons of Benefiber in my first cup of coffee BC my dietician told me to do it BC coffee is my breakfast and the fiber gets my insides to working like a fake breakfast it works for me. If you choose to keep your higher calorie additives just increase your exercise to allow for it.

This. I refuse to give up coffee cream lol. Many days I have two cups. I just use a little less or buy a lower calorie kind. I'm currently loving the Dunkin Donuts Sweet Cream flavor.

I love my creamer too! I just switched to sugar free and it cut calories down from 35 to 15 a serving and got rid of sugar. I slowly decreased the amount I put in to each cup. And I use Stevia instead of sugar which is 0 calories or sugar. I could taste a littke but of difference with Stevia, but nothing to write home about. Before I used Splenda, not a huge sugar fan because it would take so much to sweeten the coffee.

How about a non dairy creamer, such as coffee mate? I use fat free half & half, and I put lactaid drops into it.

OP, I'm here to tell you that work coffee is always terrible. You might want to consider bringing your own, if that's possible -- either your own coffee or even your own pot. There are mini-Keurigs for about a hundred bucks on Amazon that would look just spiffy on your desk or in your work area. Most workplaces have cheap nasty coffee and old dirty machines and there's nothing you can do but load the stuff up with flavoring. When I drink work coffee, I put in approximately a buttload (metric) of Splenda or Equal, which is still terrible but less terrible than the coffee. I feel your pain!

    ...wait, there's lactaid drops?

I drink my coffee black, and if I'm feeling like I just gotta have something in there, I go for what I want. You only live once. :)

That was my first recipe I created "My Coffee" I knew that was more than likely no going to give it up and I do not substitute - it is all or nothing. In the long run it will be better to just have it the way you like and accept the calories. I have my thermos (16 oz) daily and if I have more it is usually black.

You said you tried soy, almond and coconut... did you just not like them or do they give you the same result as dairy?

I use the vanilla soy milk, which I LOVE, but if it won't work for you that's not an answer.

What about any of the sugar free flavored syrups? Torani has a HUGE selection.

I use fat free half and half. It is about 10 per serving. I use this because regular cream bloats me. This is a great alternative to regular creamer.

i used to (stopped several years ago) drink it with so much sugar and milk it was ridiculous. And, drink it all day. I'm talking 3 big spoons of sugar and 1/4 cup of the cup as milk. Now I used a sweetened creamer, and put the 2 tbsp in my first cup, and just refill it when its halfway empty for my second (and final) cup. It's rare for me to drink more coffee than that in a day now. I dont usually eat 'breakfast' so those are my breakfast calories (what? 60 or so, id have to look lol)

There are dairy and sugar free creamer options, try those until you find the one that works best for you. It took me awhile to cut back, but it was pretty painless.
