Split workout

Just wanting to get other opinions on splitting workouts. In the morning I do standard 10 min warm up then 20-30 min of lifting usually 80-85%max, 8-10reps, 3 sets focusing on usually 2 muscle groups then do 30 min cardio (c25k or steady elliptical). But when I get home after work in the evening i still have energy to burn. Would it be beneficial or detrimental to do some light weights high rep for toning. And if that is okay should i focus on same muscle groups as the AM workout or different? I know to let a few days rest between working a group and usually workout is 4-5days with 2-3 rest days a week. Or should i just toss the extra workout and do a light walk? Any advice appreciated.

The great thing about workouts is that you can fine tune them to your schedule and your body. I think the key things in any workout are ( for lean muscle )
    Rest
    Protein
    Carbs
    Rest
    Eat before and after workouts
    Eat before bed (Casein protein)

For twice a day workouts, you CAN do it, but you have to have good setups and good diet choices. And in my opinion you shouldn't split bulk building and toning in same day. For two a days, rest is key and honestly I've read that if you have a job where you move around alot, not a pencil pusher its not enough rest in the workday. I have always been of the mind that you will maximize your recovery and gain if you do compound muscle groups but isolate upper/lower body. If you have time, sure.. isolate specific muscles and blow em out. And honestly, this may not work for you, but I would suggest isloate lower/upper and pick a toning or bulk lifts for each morning/ afternoon lift.

    Monday: Lower a.m.; upper p.m.
    Tuesday: Off
    Wednesday: Upper a.m.; lower p.m.
    Thursday: Off
    Friday: Lower a.m.; upper p.m.
    Weekend: Off or cardio training

My opinion I suppose. Muscle fitness has a good article on newstands now that I read a few hours ago. And Askmen.com has some good info on two a days.. http://www.askmen.com/sports/bodybuilding_200/234b_fitness_tip.html

    Good luck
