What was the worst fad diet you ever tried...

I figured now that I have realized it's all about healthy choices and portion control it may be fun to take a look at some of the worst "fad" diets we have tried. For me it was the Digest diet. Anyone else ever tried this? Shakes for breakfast and lunch and soup for dinner for days on end. After the first two days I would have traded my firstborn for a real meal!!

There is a monster thread around here somewhere with some truly eye-opening responses. The worst fad diet that someone else came up with? Slim-Fast or Special K. I've put myself on truly insane diets though.

    The "Fat Flush" diet.

Literally the worst. Didn't last two whole days.

Special K and Slim Fast are close seconds.

I read an article this week about some jerk (flogging a kindle book natch) who tried 10 diets in 50 days and lost 30 pounds. The one that worked best was the one recommended by the British health service.

I did the isagenix month plan once and dropped 17 pounds. Actually felt pretty good but man it was tough. The snacks are garbage and the fast days suck. I took a month off and tried another but failed. Then I gained it all back thanks to poor discipline since halloween. The only good thing about that system is the card that helps you put together a proper balanced meal.

    Yep… it was easily over a 100 pages long, I remember it…

Wasn't there a poster who tried a diet that was basically comprised of laxatives and had to be nursed back to health…?

Not horrible compared to some real humdingers I read about, but Slim Fast. It was way back after the birth of my oldest child (so, close to 16 years ago). And back then, Slim Fast only had the shake mix and only two kinds of bar--the flat square one that tasted like chalky dirt coated in chocolate colored wax or the one coated in white (yogurt?) waxy substance.

AdvoCare 24-day challenge...... I was naïve and thought these magical supplements did all the work when really being in a severe calorie deficit while lifting weights might have had a bigger impact on why I lost as much as I did. What a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!

For me, Keto. I know it works for many people, but I felt disgusted. I also really enjoy veggies, and I couldn't deal with cutting a lot of them out.
  • Juice fasting by far and the soup diet I gained back every pound I lost then some
  • Plus I was so miserable

I tried way too many to remember them all but here's a few highlights:

There was the eat 500 calories for 3 days straight, 2 days increase to 800 rinse and repeat.. no energy, lost some weight but also lost some hair and pissed off everyone around me.

Of course I was dieting in the 80s so there was the cut out as much fat fad...

Grapefruit diet.... cabbage soup diet... I'll take a pill and it will fix everything diet...

The I'm going to make my life miserable and everyone around me hate me diet...

Luckily I learned this time around to Keep it Simple and eat Gelato

I ate less than 800-1000cals for months. I shouldn't be surprised about the hair loss. Heck, I have to stick at least sedentary maintenance during recovery and that's 18k according to mfp.

Also, I lived off Lean Cuisines during a six month weight loss stint.
