Negligible overall long term difference.
Which one do you like, which one suits you?
Fit it in to your daily goals. Done.0 -
Only just cooked with brown rice the other night and I can't believe some people called it bland!! I thought it was delicious.
Only problem was- it wasn't as soft as I'd have liked!
Question: If I'm making up brown rice with 100g in its raw state- how much water do I need and for how long??0 -
Nutritionally, difference is minute. A little more fiber in brown, but not enough to say that it's the obvious choice over white. I believe it's going to come down to preference. Personally I will eat white rice over brown any day of the week. Especially with sushi.

I love black venere rice.
It smells like popcorn when you cook it.0 -

Don't fall for the broscience. There's lots of purported information in the fitness industry that's passed along and taken as gospel.

Have you tried quinoa? I use it in place of rice now. Light, fluffy and delicious.0

Look at the nutritional information for both...the differences are pretty negligible. I personally prefer brown rice as it actually tastes like something.0

Question: If I'm making up brown rice with 100g in its raw state- how much water do I need and for how long??
Usually brown rice requires about 1.25-1.3 times as much water as white rice, and takes about twice as long to cook. I'm a US American, so for 1 cup (180 g) of rice, I would use 1.75 cups = 414 ml of water for white rice, and 2.25 cups = 532 ml for brown rice.
Hence, for 100 g brown rice I would use 296 ml (say 300 ml) of water, vs. 230 ml (say 225 ml) for white rice.0 -
Personal preference. Very little difference between them. White rice allows for slightly better nutrient absorption, brown rice has slightly more fiber. Really, whatever you like better is what you should eat.0

I like white sticky rice, like Thai or sushi.
I don't eat a ton of rice because I find it's not worth "spending" the calories on it, usually. There are other things I'd rather spend my carb allowance on. But if I go for sushi or Thai food, yep, sign me up!0 -
Enriched white rice. Sometimes we cook it in chicken broth instead of water.
I do like brown rice occasionally but my family doesnt so I dont get it often.0 -

Same reasoning for me, though brown rice is crunchier rather than tastes like dirt. When I want crunchy rice, I just eat it dry out of the bag. Afaik from label reading, brown rice has more fibre than white. Eat what you like.0 -
I don't eat much because I don't like it that much, but the nutrient difference are slight, especially if you consider what's really available, so I choose based on what I have around and what goes best with what I'm eating.0
