Has anyone done the bridge to 10k after completing c25k? Is it really necessary to go back to running in intervals?

Anyone who has been there, would you recommend just building off the 3 miles or really starting at jog 10, walk 1, repeat 4 times?

Hi. I never did the program but was a part of a Learn to Run group at one time that taught pretty much the same way ( 10's and 1's during our long runs). During a 10k race, however, I would sometimes change it up and run the first 20 minutes straight then take a 1 minute break. Then I'd do 10s and 1s. Close to the finish..I may just finish and forget about intervals. But for training for a 10k, intervals if fine. We also did hill training, speed drills, etc. Good for you for completing the first program!

I didn't want to go back to running intervals after completing C25K, so I did one of Hal Higdon's 10K plans, which I would highly recommend! It starts with three mile runs (which you should be used to from C25K) and then builds up to six.

When I finsihed a C25k last September, stretching to a 10k was pretty easy. To me, the C2k5 was mostly about building the aerobic endurance to run for a continued time. At that point, there it didn't feel like a to stretch to go 4, then 5 and then 6 miles on the weekly long run. I don't think you need to go back to interval running.

Heads up though, it gets addicting. As soon as you do the 10k, you'll want to start preparing for a half. :)

You can start at a later week on the 10k program. I did it and now I am training for a half marathon in February! Started last year in May.

I used C25K+ for a few weeks after finishing C25K, then tried the zen labs B210K podcasts and didn't get on with run/ walk. I used an Endomondo 10K improvement plan instead and that worked well for me.

Agreed, I basically kept my weekday runs to about 3 miles for time, but I stretched to 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, and finally 6 on the weekends. It's an easy progression!

And yeah, as we both know, the OP will soon be registering for half-marathon if they stick with it! ;)

I did stick to the intervals when I started the bridge to 10k and it worked for me. I am now training for a half in May... I didn't believe it when people told me it would become addictive.
