Surplus calories

Can the calories that I don't use in a day/week be used later? Right now I have my tracker set to show me daily information which is working fine for me but what if I want to go out to dinner? Can I utilize those calories that I haven't used towards something special without negating everything that I have worked hard all week to achieve? If so what is the best way for me to figure out what I have left? And does this apply for a time frame longer than a week, say a month?

Many people on here follow a weekly goal instead of a daily one. As long as you're still under overall, it's fine.0

I wouldn't extend it farther than weekly for banking calories for a dinner out or something.0

Yes, you can save as many as you want and use them anytime, though MFP doesn't support modelling that. You'd either need to retroactively add things in to older days or just keep track of it manually to make it work.0

I try for a daily goal but ultimately follow a weekly plan. Some days I'm not so hungry, others I'm endlessly hollow.0

I will sometimes "bank" calories a few days in advance if I know I am going out to dinner with friends later in the week. I try not to go too crazy and eat 2500 calories worth of food in that one dinner because it could possibly blow all of my work for the week.0

Great - thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of doing a daily goal but following a weekly plan. Is there a way to change that on the food page so that I can see what each day was like? The problem I will probably have is that because I started another diet on a Wednesday and lost 5 pounds (I know that is not a norm), when I changed to MFP because the other one was just not edible I continued with that same day. My weigh in will be Wednesday but can I adjust MFP to go from Wednesday to Wednesday to make this work?0
