Detoxing

What is your experience with it? I have fallen into bad eating habits and due to breastfeeding I feel hungry all the time!!! I am looking for a fresh start and have never tried a detox. I recently havent been actively trying to loose weight and now I'm hoping to make some progress towards my goal.
Is there one that worked for you?
Any advice or info is appreciated.
Also it would need to be something ok to do while breastfeeding.

calorie deficit = weight loss...
cleansing has nothing to do with losing weight.

I wasnt implying cleansing was to loose weight. Maybe I wrote my post wrong. I guess what I am looking for is advice on how to stray away from the sugar and carbs I crave daily.0

The only "detox" (I use quotes because that's what the livers job is) I've ever done was a juice cleanse. The juice cleanse was for me to jump start my diet, mainly. I'd make 4-5 juices a day with my Hamilton Beach juicer with all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Ultimately, it was expensive. But I felt great!
ASIDE FROM THAT, now, juice cleanses & detoxes are tricky because usually they are low calorie and range from a few days to a week. That typically means no strenuous exercise unless you want to go full out crazy-woman and binge like no other. And truly, I wouldn't suggest this course of action to anyone that is breast feeding. I think a detox or a cleanse is just not what you want/need right now as it can be extremely mentally and physically taxing.-5 -

OP: Your kidney and liver are your natural filtration systems. You will lose weight if you eat a reasonable deficit. Good luck0 -
Detoxes are not needed, and some could even be dangerous to do during breast feeding (harmful to infant). Your body detoxes itself. If it doesn't, you need medical intervention, not a "detox".0

If you are hungry maybe you have set your calorie goal too low or aggressive. Especially not good if you are feeding an infant.0

Breastfeeding will actually help you lose weight, you should eat more when you are breastfeeding to accomidate feeding another human! If you are craving carbs, try to stick to whole grains and they will keep you full for longer.0

I would stay away from "cleanses" as they can be dangerous--especially to the baby. There could be lots of things going on, but I'm betting on a yeast overgrowth in the gut due to the high levels of estrogen from pregnancy and breastfeeding (estrogen, as nearly every woman knows, encourages the growth of yeast in the mucosa lining the reproductive canal--but it also encourages its growth elsewhere in the body). Recent studies have suggested that your microflora (the bacteria in your gut) actually influence your appetite toward what they want to eat. The gut is called "the second brain" for a reason--it has a constant feedback loop with the brain. It is actually pretty amazing. You likely don't need a cleanse as much as you need a pro-biotic supplement and staying away from feeding the "beasties" in your gut the starch and sugar that they thrive on. Kefir and yogurt will help to establish "friendly" bacteria and they will discourage yeast overgrowth. Eating lots of veggies will help as well because they feed other bacteria that have been discouraged. Given the right diet, and the eventual cessation of breastfeeding, you should be able to right things in your gut (which, as I have said, is the likely source of the problem). Coconut oil contains a fatty acid (caprylic acid) that is great for discouraging yeast. I would include some in my diet every day--the lauric acid that coconut oil also contains will benefit your immune system as well as the baby's. If you get massive "die-off" of the yeast in your gut, you can feel pretty lousy for a day or two while the die-off toxins that it is putting into your bloodstream are filtered out through your liver and kidneys. You will want to drink lots of water and maybe do the new program every other day until the die-off reaction stops.
You can also try a fast from fructose for a couple of weeks. I did that and it ended my sugar and starch cravings. The reason why it works is that staying away from all sources of fructose (keep in mind that table sugar--sucrose--is 50% fructose) will lower your level of fructokinase (a gut enzyme). Some scientists believe that eating a lot of fructose in the form of sugar boosts fructokinase to abnormal levels and that may be the basis of the craving for sugar and starch (the body quickly converts starch to various sugars).0 -
