    I use Leslie sansone's walk away the pounds, the DVD that has the 1,2 and 3 mile walks. Each walk has some time for using hand weights. As for yoga, I love wai lana! Id recommend her beginner DVD to anyone. My kids do it with me. You may want to check her out on Youtube first, because I have heard others complain about her soft voice and how she does all her yoga outside/vs in a studio.

    The only way to have optimum results when it comes to walking alone is to pump the incline [10% incline for example] up. I attribute all my weight loss success to inclined walking and counting calories.

    If you can't handle jogging/running for whatever reason, then I believe inclined walking is the next best thing.

    walking is fine exercise, but from a fitness standpoint, you're going to have limited improvements. I did nothing but walk for exercise early on when I was first getting back into shape...honestly, it was all I could really do. But my fitness aspirations ultimately went beyond being able to walk around like a normal person...now I walk on my rest days.

    It really just depends on what you want to get out of it...like I said, your fitness gains are limited...but walking is pretty good for your health in general.

    What I love about walking is that I can fit it in my regular day. I walk to the next town to get the train (half an hour) and take the dog out a bit more, I walk to my part time job (1hour uphill) and pop to the shops more often or to visit people. I have a Fitbit and always get my minimum 10,000 steps a day but can easily double that on busy days. I do use work out videos too but walking is a huge part of my active life :)

    This interesting article discusses the dangers of prolonged sitting. Even standing is better than sitting and walking ups that even more.

  • Walking is a great mix combined with strength training. I have a fitbit it tracks my steps, miles, calories and more it also links with MFP. Add me we can motivate each other

    I am planning to brisk walk at least 2km for 45 mins, 3x a week involving ascending a 6 flr flight of stairs (6km/week) since it's the only possible exercise I can get from being a full time university student.

    Walking is a great form of exercise, but what the heck is this?

    Walking is awesome. It is good for your bones, it gets the blood flowing, and can very gently lift your mood. One of my favorite things to do is take a stroll after a good meal, it settles my food nicely in my stomach and makes for a pleasant digestive experience. A casual stroll is very mild in terms of exercise, though healthy nonetheless, but walking can be done to varying degrees of output and training effect. Some of the most grueling exercise sessions I've ever done were walking over varied terrain and elevations at a 4 to 4.5mph pace with about 80 to 100lbs strapped to my back for 10+ miles

    My whole weight loss journey started because I went for a walk one day because I was so stressed about a math final I had (while already married, with 4 kiddos!!!) It felt good, so I did it again the next day. And the next. I walked off my stress and 60 lbs!

    I now run, lift, P90X, etc...still love a good walk!

    Don't underestimate the power of walking. : )

    P.S. Nobody has "free time" to workout once married, working & having kids. But if you want to be better at all those things, you have to take care of yourself first.
