Diabetes and carb amounts

Options
im new to fitness pal but I think it's telling me to get 50% of my calories from carbs? I know I cannot have that many because I am diabetic and working to loose weight and decrease the amount of insulin I'm taking. Anyone else have advice for this?

Thanks so much for the reply! I will look into that book too, thanks! I wish there was an option on my food journal to change my percentages of what it says I should have.

I wouldn't recommend taking health advice from MFP. Eat however many carbs you think you should.

not sure if this will help, but there's a group on MFP for type II diabetics with some excellent resource site and lots of info (like www.bloodsugar101.com site).. here's the link in case you want to check it out.

and you can change your percentages somewhat in your diary under settings.. i.e., carbs 30/protein 40/fat 30 or whatever you want...

    heres the link

I am pre-TII and I find it's the total amount of carbs at one sitting that matters more than the overall percentage, per se.

That is just me - you really should ask your doctor.

However, I find 30g or less per meal or snack keeps my blood sugar a lot more stable.

Here's another great suggestion from Dr. Hyman - combine the best of veganism and the best of paleo (paganism)

How is paganism related to paleo? Paganism is a religion (that has no dietary restrictions) and paleo is an eating plan.

    Paleo + Vegan = Pegan

    It's puny.
