Hey folks!

I'm in long-term recovery from an eating disorder. I'm not tracking calories, taking measurements, or weighting myself. I'm trying to incorporate healthy exercise into my very busy schedule (I'm a Ph.D. student. I sit. a LOT!) Trying hard not to think about weight (I'm okay. I'm in therapy. Not looking for mental health support here-- that is too much to ask from non-professionals!)

I'm just working on making sure I hit my heart-healthy 150 minutes of exercise a week (with bonus points for weight-training and calisthenics)! It is so easy to put my needs last! I really really want to make this a part of my normal routine!

I would start with Yoga first and foremost. I'm sure you don't want to publicly discuss the details of your ED, however the most important thing is learning to listen to your body, understanding its limitations and beginning to understand what you can achieve and building upon that over time. Quieting the mind, stress testing your limbs, flexibility and strength is so important before you embark upon anything overly strenuous. I really wish you every success in moving forward, I know from personal experience how difficult recovery is.

I've done a little bit of yoga before and I really loved it. I found a couple of places in my neighborhood (one of which is a Buddhist collective house that does free classes every day of the week)! Trying to get the nerve up to go to one (I've got a bit of social anxiety, too) but it seems like such a great option-- good for the body and mind!
