Gain weight back, should I be worry?

in my first week of working out, the scale went from 142 to 138. Yesterday wasn't my second weigh in (Thursday is) but I had an assessment and had to check my weight.. The scale said 142! Why did I gain weight back?? Should I be worried? It really upset me. I binged like crazy out of emotional eating. I worked so hard :'(

    Weight loss is not linear. The body has daily fluctuations like TOM, sodium, food still in the system, etc.

    Normal water weight fluctuations. Weight loss isn't linear.

    It happens. As long as you are logging accurately and staying to your calorie goal, don't pay attention to any one number on the scale. Don't let it upset you. I'm up and down daily, but the trend is consistently down.

  • Gaining weight, you have to be worried because gaining weight will invite lots of problems regarding health like diseases like heart problem, blood pressure, sugar etc. So its better to lose the weight and make yourself fit.

    Was your assessment on a different scale? That would account for it too.

    This has what to do with the OP's very normal experience of non-linear weight loss?

  • I don't know if this has to do with anything, but I was on my menstrual cycle my first week of dieting and weighing in.

    A fluctuation of a few pounds is totally normal. You may have a week where you gain a few pounds. I weigh one time a week and, unless there is a major difference, I don't get concerned (or excited, depending) until I see an upward trend for a few weeks. Then I make adjustments.

    Just keep at it! You're going to have fluctuations. It's completely normal. I fluctuate ~5 lbs in a day. It could easily just be some extra salt causing water weight or you need to poop. Make sure you weigh in the same conditions every time. For example, I weigh myself every single morning after I wake up (between 6-7 AM) and after I go to the bathroom, and it's always on the same scale. If it helps you, you could consider weighing daily so you can see each day how you are doing as opposed to once a week. Find a method that works for you. :) Just try to not let little setbacks like this derail you. Easier said than done, I know. As long as you stick with it, you'll get where you want to go.

    It could be water weight I got every week to a specialist and the weight I gain I loss body fat so be okay with it

    Body weight bounces around all the time. I've seen mine go up as much as 5 lbs from one day to the next. Keep to your plan and it'll come back off. It's likely just some fluid being retained for some reason, likely due to stress of your new exercise regime.

    Nah. I have a cheat meal now and then. Just don't weigh yourself for a few days if it's super salty and just keep on truckin'.

    It's completely normal for weight to fluctuate like that. My weight can fluctuate up to about 5 lbs a day too. Confusing, but I've learned to just watch for trends as many others have said. Stay kind of neutral - I don't get super excited when I see a difference on one weigh in, don't get super upset if I see a gain. If you do the right thing, you will see change over time. And "the right thing" does not mean being perfect. You binged? That's ok. Just keep on going. It will do more harm getting upset over it than it will just moving on. It takes a while to adjust to a new lifestyle. If binging is a reaction you've had for a long while, it will happen. But as you go, less and less. Try and think of the binges you have avoided - and not just the ones that have slipped through.
