Hypnosis/NLP and Weight Management Counseling

Anyone ever try hypnosis/NLP or get counseling specifically for weight loss? I've always been curious about the psychology of eating/exercise, especially as it pertains to my own struggles with weight loss. What are the blocks, why is it hard to break habits, and how have successful people broken through those barriers?

Not by counseling and hypnosis. Get to the iron chapel and pay homage to Brodin. Once you pave the way with DOMS, you will have no bad habits to break, only personal bests that must be crushed.
(aka. get to the gym, lift heavy)0 -
Eh. DOMS don't do anything but build muscle under fat, IF you don't do anything with your diet and round out your overall health program. I've seen too many bros at the gym that are just bulky with no muscle definition because they "lift heavy", don't do cardio, then eat crap afterwards. That's not a resolution. That's ignorance and poor planning. Legitimate answers, please.0

I used a hypnosis app on my Ipad for about a month. It really helped me get control of my uncontrollable urge to binge eat for the first time in my life. It feels so incredible to have broken those chains. Now I'm losing weight through the hard work of counting calories and exercising. Hypnosis doesn't work for everyone, but it has worked for me. Probably the best $4.95 I've ever spent.0

I've done a Paul McKenna hypnosis CD, and it actually works pretty well. I definitely found myself eating more mindfully and stopping eating when I was full without feeling the need to finish everything off.0

NLP is pseduo-science - it's been debunked repeatedly. Here's a nice little article about it, before you decide to spend any money on something that has no empirical evidence to support it.
Hypnosis has slightly more evidence to support it, but there are flaws in the studies, which are detailed in the link.
Basically, as with anything worth having, you have to work for it. I know it's easier said than done, but the best results come from eating foods with low calorie density (leafy green and cruciferous veg!) to fill yourself up, drinking plenty of water and keeping busy. Anything that helps support that is great, but what works is eating less and moving more.0 -

As I said in my post, I used hypnosis as a tool to help me stop my uncontrollable urge to binge. I've been doing the HARD WORK of counting calories and exercise to lose the weight,0 -

Calories in < calories out is the goal of course, but building muscle is a good idea. Added muscle is the only way to increase your metabolism long term.

i went to a seminar where they said they would hypnotize us and them bought the tape and listened to it for a couple weeks after. I didn't work for me.0

I did hypnosis for several different things for about two years - stress, sleep and weight control. I think it helped for a while, but I didn't keep up with listening to my sessions. I went to a hypnotherapist one on one and things were tailored to my specific needs for each appt. I think it definitely worked best for stress. I have recordings of each of my sessions to listen to, I just didn't devote time to doing so. We focused on things like eating more veggies, thinking of food as fuel, etc. I stopped it last March because I felt like I'd gotten what I could from it but don't regret doing it at all.0
