So linking in with a post back in December: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10035449/so-how-bad-is-transfat#latest

I have been checking packages etc to ensure I don't get any transfat especially since I bought a packet of Banana chips and another packet of dried apricots believing they would be a healthy and safe option. Only to bring them home and discover transfat.

I swear why does this have to be put into everything? It seems that there are no healthy snacks that do not include Transfat (Sans some protein bars but they are expensive so I try not to consume them daily)

Does anyone know some good pre-packaged snack? these are just for days I am in a rush really. Most of the time I have healthy snacks prepared for the day.

Some refined vegetable oils that are not partially hydrogenated do have some trans fat content in them from the refining process, specifically the deodorizing stage, so when it comes to labeling they're going to show up....the culprits are soy, corn and canola oils mostly. These are trace amounts though, but nevertheless will show up.

Highly processed food has that and similar fats. Ignore the transfat -- your body can handle it. Or eat something else.

Why not eat the real fruit?

I do that too. Haha but I wanted something that would not get squashed in my bag or take up too much room. Plus there is a lady at work who screws up her nose whenever I eat an actual banana in the office

Sounds crazy to me! Transfats are nearly non-existant in the UK... But my favourite snack - which should be transfat feel in any country - is jalapino houmous and carrot sticks. If you have trouble sourcing transfat free houmous, it's easy as pie to make at home: all you need is a food processor and five minutes.

I have hummus and celery sticks, it is one of my favourite snacks

If you need processed packaged snacks for emergency days (we all have them!) I recommend going to a local health food store and checking out their snacks. Read the labels before you buy so there's no surprises.

I have read low levels of Transfats may not be harmful and are naturally occurring in some foods.
