There has been an update to the flag/report system. *Note that incorrect use of the flagging system can now result in warnings and accruing of points towards getting banned.*

    Awesome!

"Users who flag content which does not meet the criteria for a flag will be subject to warnings and points. This includes users who are flagging content due to past events gone sour, a dislike of the user, and those who are trying to incite drama, flame-bait, or are flagging to attack another user in a thread due to disagreement."

I just wish there were a way to publicly decry those who are misusing the flag system - sort of a virtual public flogging... Maybe an "Inappropriate Flagger of the Day" award issued by the mods? :p

How do you know about points? I just looked and I have exactly 1 "abuse" report, but I have 1 point? What is that? No moderator has said anything to me?

Haha yes indeedy! Or it should say who the flagger is! I bet that would cut it down alot. Then people can't hide behind their screens hitting the flag button 100 times a day!

Flags don't count as points. Only warnings do - and those will pop up in your notifications - detailing why you were warned and how many points you got.

@Kruggeri, you are correct about the abuse flags. Here is how the points/flags/warnings system works, with explanation of how each (spam, abuse, report) should be used:

Is there a way to see how many flags we've gotten, other than looking at the posts themselves?

I know I've gotten loads of flags, but I've never seen points or warnings. Is it just via the inbox? I've checked Settings and have asked help, but I can't figure out how to see points or warnings.

While I try to be level-headed most of the time, one or twice I've flown off the handle and fully expected to get a warning.

I just want to make sure I'm not missing something I should know about!

Can we build a special section for people who are asking about juicing because of Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead? Maybe a special spam button? Please?

Also, if we add a facepalm icon in the flag menu, a lot of the abuse will stop.

Also, if you go to the bell icon for notifications and click all notifications it will bring you to the same place.

Sure, in the upper right corner, there's a bell (your notification tab thing). Click that and at the bottom, click "All Notifications" at the bottom of that box - it will show you there how many flags you have (and for what).

The warnings, like I said, will come through as a pop up notification - you can't miss them - they are big red triangle frowny faces. It will detail what you did you wrong and tell you how many points you get - and how to contact someone if you want to talk about it.

Oh? I got a warning after I absent-mindedly used a swearword in a post, but it did not say anything about contacting anyone. It also did not say anything about how many points I got. I only just found out I got two points...

I also just found out I got an abuse flag somewhere… I cannot figure out where that came from, however. -.^

No wait. I just found it… I got 0 points, but in my profile I am at -2 points? Whut?

As a user, not a moderator, I like the new flag system, although it does seem people sometimes hit it by mistake... Can you unflag/deflag something if you mess up?

Yep. If you repeat the action it will remove the flag that you've placed. I do it accidentally all the time when there are a ton of spambot posts and I can't remember which I've flagged and which I haven't.

Yes it is helpful with spam. It is also useful in Abusive posts. After 5 a use flags, that particular post collapses. After 10 I believe it is completely removed.

I have yet to ever see an abusive post, yet people keep flagging posts as abuse.

Abuse is supposed to be things like porn, not posts that you just think are mean.

I guess it depends on the mod that issues it? I had one generic "your post violated the guidelines" and the other one had a more personal message. The latter invited me to contact Olivia if I had any questions.

The points are listed like this (I hope it's okay to share). So this warning had no points attached to it.

Yes, just click on "flag" again.

Each time a person "flags" you, you get -1 point. They don't actually count for anything though.

Oye! I am at -72 points and four warnings. Three of the warnings are totally deserved, but one of the warnings, the one with 2 points attached, I protest that warning. Undeserved!

Anyhow, I'm really glad I now know where the flags are. Thank you!
