So I fell on the ice, what to do for exercise?

Right now I'm besties with my heating pad and Tylenol so I'm not moving very much. Am I only going to be able to do Pilates and Yoga once the pain/bruising is over?

For 10 years I've worked out hard, 5 or 6 days a week. I want to Spin and use the rowing machine and jump around; I'm NOT a happy camper!

If you broke something, I'd check with your doctor about after its all healed when you can get back to regular exercise. If you are just bruised, you';; probably be fine to do whatever, whenever it stops being tender.

I slipped on Sunday. I don't work out that much, but I'm annoyed because I was increasing my speed on the treadmill each time, & since I can't bend over toput on my socks & sneakers, I couldn't do much. Luckily, walking around actually seems to help the tender (top of the butt) area, so I've been doing that. Changing from a standing to sitting position has been hurting, but it's better today. Just keep doing things to keep the muscles loose & you'll heal faster, as long as nothing is broken.

Where exactly are your injuries? That will determine what kind of exercise you can do. If you've injured your legs, that may mean you can't do high impact or load-bearing exercise, but you may still be able to do spinning, and of course, you could do arm / chest / core exercises (unless you've injured your arms or hands, obviously).

I slipped on the ice last year and landed hard on my butt. For about a week, all I could bear to do was walk. (I did.) After that, I was fine.

    It's a week. You'll live.

Well, I had bursitis in one knee for a whole year after falling on the ice. With that and other injuries/setbacks, I was told "no core exercises" typically for six weeks. I was able to do most things within short order, only modified "low impact".

That all being said, I'm pretty darn active now.

Are you OK to swim? That is low impact and a real good workout.

No offense but life is full of these mishaps, keep plugging away at walking or what have you. Believe me a slip on the ice is nothing compare to what some others deal with.

I almost cried when I saw the title. I sustained serious injuries years ago and had to relearn how to walk due to muscle atrophy. I still can't do things normal people do on a daily, like sit on the floor, bend down at the knees, run, jump. I'll agree with "keep plugging away" with whatever you can do, even if it means you do bicep curls, and be thankful all you have is bruising. Maybe take it as a message that you need to exercise a bit of caution and slow down just a tad so it doesn't happen again.

    Ok all. Many thanks!
  • It hurts to walk and it's still a challenge to change positions. I'm guessing I'll cut my caloric intake by at least half to compensate. Man I hope you get better soon, this stinks not being able to walk or go for a run. Im noticing I'm getting stressed more without exercise.

Assuming you have nothing fractured or broken, just ease back in. If you feel pain, stop.

Pilates is great exercise btw and not easy, at least for me, lol.
