I was wondering if there was anyone who has done this pilgrimage on this site? If you could give any of your experiences and advise. Also, If anyone would be interested in doing a virtual walk of this hike or any other interesting long distance hikes or pilgrimages such as the Pacific Crest Trail or The Florida Trail.

I've witnessed religious pilgrimages in Latin America, though I was not participating.

I would love to do Santiago just for the history and the experience even though I am not religious.

I need to learn more about the PCT--I live fairly close to it and did tons of hiking in the region when I was younger, but I don't know that I've ever hiked right on it.

I do love the idea of walking a really, really long way. :)

    What is a virtual walk?

I've never done a long-distance hike IRL. I've been on parts of the Florida Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and the Nantahala Trail, but my longest hike is only five-six hours.

Are you talking about something like this? Where we take our minutes or steps and equate them to trail miles? I'm in.

OMG! Thank you yes...I had no idea that website existed. Yes, I would like to see if a group can be formed and do a virtual walk.

Maybe set a date to start and get a group together to motivate each other?

Although I haven't done the Camino myself, my 60 year old father walked it following a significant loss about 2 1/2 years ago. It completely changed his life. He had an amazing experience and loves to tell anyone who'll listen! (And show them the 1600 photos he took, lol!)
He met some wonderful people that were on the same journey, and they have become some of his best friends. He returned from the trip inspired, and happier and more self-confident than I have ever seen him. My younger sisters (23 & 25) plan to do the Camino this summer. I would love to join them, but with working full time and a new marriage & home, the timing is not right for me. But someday I will.
Based on my dad's experience and the positive impact it made on his life, I would highly encourage you do it!

Alright! Do you want me to start a group? I cannot participate in it if it's a religious thing (I don't know much about this walk besides what I've gleaned from a quick google), but I'd be happy to do it if it's just a walk.

I think it's more spiritual than religious...it's kind of whatever you want it to be for you!

I think you are right. jjlove I think you can make it anything you want. I want to go for the historical and just being able to make that trek in my life time and to be able to see the beautiful country. I think the spiritual side of it will present itself with certainty.

This sounds really interesting, if one feels motivated enough by the route... I think someone did the walk to Mordor last year - now that would be fun to try :)

ETA: I found the link, you guys might not like the route but perhaps it may help you to see how it was organized:

Check out the movie "The Way" if you're interested in Camino de Santiago.
