Breaking Down Salad Kits

I might have to write a letter to Dole. I love their chopped salads, but I rarely eat all the extras. I eat all the greens half the dressing, and almost none of the extras. The problem is they don't give you nutritional info on each individual item - they just assume you're going to inhale the whole thing. How am I supposed to get an accurate calorie count?

Why not buy less expensive separates instead of salad kits? Buy lettuce and toppings, and either buy or make dressing. It's less expensive, much fresher, and gives you complete transparency with caloric data.0

I agree; those salad kits are so expensive where I'm at (the same cost of a tub of greens that has 2-3x the product in it). Have you considered getting the individual ingredients for the parts of the salad you do eat, and make your own at home?0

Yeah, if you're not eating the toppings - just greens and dressing - I think that the best way to fix this is to just buy/chop your own greens and add your own dressing. If you were eating half of the dressing and toppings I would suggest splitting the nutrition info in half and add 30-ish calories for the extra greens.0

I agree - but I was in the store and just wanted to grab something for lunch that I didn't have to mess with too much. Usually I make a big salad at home and just take portioned containers to work.0

I totally agree I make my own salad kits with fresh green salad, cucumber etc. and my own dressing... it is cheaper, healthier and you can vary however you want to.0 -
If you just want a breakdown of what you eat out of their salad kits, why not create a personalized entry and add what you only eat out of the kit as a recipe or the like? It should help you get an idea, at least.0

I don't think there will be any way to get the individual calorie counts, unless you guesstimate. I'm pretty sure their nutritional information is "as prepared", with all of their provided ingredients.0 -
I loved those dole chopped salads as well. I grabbed them for $1 last week, guess they were getting outdated so the store had them in the mark down bin. For me it was an easy quick lunch without the prep but I agree I wish they would put better breakdown of the ingredients!0

I had the same problem...I usually logged it as a full serving and didn't worry too much about the over-estimation.
