Yeah, I was doing do well today until those 800 calories of whiskey. At least I manage to keep the extra mixer calories out of it by drinking my booze on the rocks, but still...

350 for my fireball whiskey and rum chata. Could have easily had downed 4 of those.

Alcohol should still be limited if fat loss is your goal, regardless of whether or not you account for the calories.

Your body actually changes the way it metabolizes food when you drink; essentially it sees the alcohol as a toxin that must be dealt with immediately, and therefore pushes anything else (mixers, the chips and salsa you snacked on, etc.) aside and into your fat stores for later use so it can deal with the booze first.

It also dehydrates you, interrupts your sleep cycle, and causes spikes and crashes in your blood sugar, possibly triggering more cravings and overeating.

I am in my 60s. Sorry to tell you that my body just doesnt metabolize alcohol right anymore. I suffer when I drink, and who has just 1? Not me. So I have given up alcohol. Darn.

800 in whiskey...neat? That's a lot! For me anyways. I drank wine out of the bottle in my underwear at 3:00 in the afternoon today so I feel you.

I was way under on my calories today so I treated myself to 240 calories of apple pie moonshine. Still have another 375 calories remaining at my 1 pound per week goal.

Yeah. @JossFit has some good points, but funny how well I will ignore them. Guess that's my current issue. Yes, @arditarose‌, it really is. Thank you for being there with me today!

it's too easy, especially as often it's on top of the food you;ve eaten for the day...i had four glasses of wine last night - 400 calories...then i got home and had to have toast to soak it up...another 200...600 calories on nothing basically...:(

It is never about the alcohol calories with me, the problem is what I consume at the end of the night/morning to try to mitigate a hangover the next day!

I've decided (again) to limit my alcohol consumption to just the weekends. I've been under my calorie budget for the few days since then, but by Tuesday it sure felt like a long way to go until Friday!

I'm a lightweight, I get drunk on less than 200 calories of vodka. Then I get the drunken munchies, though. So I have to curtail my drinking, too.

    Yup.

Alcohol calories definitely add up which is why (for the most part) I have limited my alcohol intake to the weekends.

I cut way down on my alcohol...except for yesterday. Yesterday was a bad day and I went back to my old habit of comforting myself with wine. I am sicker than a dog today. :\ I told myself this morning Never Again! Ugh!

What I have found in the past, when I drank alcohol, the weight gain didn't happen until several days later... like they are trying to catch up. Do other people have that happen?

Yep. I think the alcohol dehydrates so next morning you think your drunken feast didn't do too much harm, then a couple days later you see the real damage.

Yes! In my experience it really screws up things.

Alcohol was one of the problems of my weight gain, so I have really cut back on it. Because I have cut back, it now doesn't take as much to get a buzz. I usually try to stick with a can of light beer (approx. 96 calorie per 12 oz) or glass of wine in the evening. (approx. 125 calories per 5 oz). I also try to limit drinking calorie/sugar-laden achololic mixes/speciality drinks to occassionally like one of my favorite drinks is coke and crowne royale. Nothing like having the right liquoer for my coke. I tell people that alcohol is my enemy/my weakness in my weight mgmt.

I've totally cut alcohol, I'd rather have the calories for food. Instead I have a very diluted 'grown up' squash/cordial made with sparkling water and ice and sipped through a straw - at the times when i usually would have had booze

This is exactly what I've started doing. I love a glass of wine (or two) at the end of the day, but I've decided I just don't need it, so now it's only Friday-Sunday that I can have a drink unless it's a special occassion or something. I've found my weight loss is going much quicker. I think a big part is that when I have 200 calories left over for the day I don't decided to use them up with a big glass of wine...instead I just don't consume them if i'm not hungry.

I didn't even have to read beyond your title without saying, "I know, right?" I've cut way back on my alcohol indulgence. I much prefer to eat my calories than drink them. Sometimes, though, it can't be helped.

That must be a small G&T! Gin alone is going to run you around 65 - 75 cals per ounce (and in the US a shot is 1.5 ounces). And tonic runs about 10 cals per ounce (assuming not diet).

Edit: I see you said light tonic, so maybe ignore the tonic comment. But be forewarned that while liquor is very efficient calorie-for-buzz wise, you generally are going to bottom out at around 65 cals per ounce for an 80 proof liquor.

I have to admit that I have no idea how much an ounce is :( - I use 20cl Bombay Blue Sapphire, 150ml Schweppes Tonic & Elderflower Low Calorie and 1 tsp lemon juice and according to MFP that comes down to just over 50 calories. It's a small one but I don't want to get hammered several times a week :P
