Night Munchies?? Stoner needs advice...

I have been trying to loose weight for years. The only time I do is when I stick to the MFP routine, log my food, exercise, burn more than I take in, all that. I am doing okay, but where I loose it is at night. I am a mother of two and after I get the dinner and night chores all done and the kids are asleep, I like to smoke a little pot and have "me time". But then I get sooooo hungry. I know I shouldn't eat so close to bed time, and whats worse is I crave the WORST food for me. Any tips and how to handle the munchies, what is OK to eat an hour before bed, or anything that is a good distraction from food?

Sugar free jelly. Home popped popcorn. Low fat yogurt. Drinks with sweetener or low cal hot chocolate. Ice lollies.
And that's only if you really can't resist the munchies. Oh, and pre log a little feast and only eat what's already been logged.

I'd pre plan it and then be done, a tablespoon of almond butter coated in ground flax seed knocks my munchies out but you have to already have the calories assigned. If not then I suggest a nice cup o tea.0

I cut back my herbal activites to weekends only for this very reason. It's my big splurge. I don't drink. Gave it up to cut the calories. But I won't give up my smoke so I just do that on the weekends and do the planned munchie thing. It works. Also it really helps to drink a ton of water. Improves the cotton mouth situation and dampens the munchies.0

Been probably 10 years since I smoked. The answer is there is no real answer besides not smoke. Even if you hold macros from the day you will still eat over it with junk. I got kids I know there are snacks in the house lol0

Coming from someone who lives in a state where it's legal - maybe try a different strain? Each kind has different properties, maybe you can find one that doesn't give you the munchies as bad. Or, you could try taking it as a tincture.0 -
Or maybe instead of smoking you can try breathing like doing a breath of fire or meditation or yoga. These release same endorphins as mj. I used to smoke but it makes me eat waaay to much! I don't need help with that thank you very much! So my "me time" has changed to walking, yoga, meditation, yogic breathing, listening to meditation music, mfp, a hot bath with candles and incense, watching a movie, or something I find motivational on youtube! New coping skills also mean I am now more present and aware and here for my kids than when I smoked alot more clarity and presence.0

Flavored seltzee water or tea sometimes help. But honestly I just make sure to plan something into my day for after I smoke. My biggest problem is portions when I have the mnchies so I just make sure to be strict about measuring0

This. You could also make 'tea' with it. I loved the high from making tea with my stash.
Leaving calories for your you time would be beneficial, too. Maybe keep track of how many you eat, on average, during that time and leave the cals for then.0 -

I've found that eating cool crisp refreshing things really hits the spot for me! Slice some apples and put in the fridge with a little lemon juice. This is pure ambrosia! Soothes the cotton mouth too. I've also found that if I smoke right after a meal, it helps. Definitely drink water. Low sugar dark chocolate is nice to have on hand. Carrots with a healthy dip. Keep the bad stuff out of your house!! Also, experiment with movement and exercise! I've realized that I can go deeper with yoga, dance with the stars (seriously, headphones in the backyard! My husband and I both do it), and take "nature walks" in my suburban neighborhood at night : ) Enjoy!0

I suffer from this problem. I get food hangovers now. I don't drink, but do smoke on occasion. High sativas' are best, but it's the come down. Marijuana spikes the bodies glucos levels, and upon the comedown all food taste as if it's got magic in it.....like little fairies are playing chimes for each bit in which you are majicked into eating more and more. When I drink two bottles of water before even thinking about the munchies it works. If I am alone I have chewed entire packs of trident gum in less than an hour, and that also works. I have friends that work out after smoking, but I can't seem to force myself into it. When hungover from a good munchies Bing I work out before eating (maybe just a 150 calorie protein drink before). Then my body seems to feel better. With that said, I better work out.0

Popcorn. Get a variety of flavored popcorn sprinkles to keep on hand. Cut up a big bag of veggies and have some hummus or something to enjoy them with. Don't keep stuff in the house that you know you can't resist.0

Would it feel like deprivation to you if you looked for another way to unwind? I sooo know that need to unwind after the children are in bed but if it leads to food cravings then it's fighting against your willpower to get healthy and that's the kind of relaxant you could do without. We need everything in our lives to be feeding into an dsupporitng our decision to live healthily. Could you try meditation or even just a really funny tv programme with some herbal tea?0

People are giving you very odd answers. The key is to make it fit into your macros. Plan for this in advance. Don't eat all your calories, smoke up then get stuck with nothing.

I'm beginning to think I eat like a stoner.
Just keep low calorie snacks within reach. If I can remember back that far, foods that were easily accessible tended to win most of the time - at least until some idiot suggested that we get Chinese.0 -
Well, it goes without saying, if something is causing you to overeat, you need to address that behavior and eliminate it...aka stop smoking pot.0

I've never smoked pot in my life so I don't know what works and what doesn't, but have you tried locking the high calorie foods in some cupboard that has a key and hiding it somewhere where you would be too lazy to reach? You could prepare less offending foods and put them on display so they're the first thing you reach for when you have the munchies.0

I have the exact same issue. I try to completely stop eating after dinner. I usually drink water, and that helps sometimes. The trick for me is keeping busy. I love to sew, so I spend a couple hours at night cross stitching. It keeps my hands busy and my eyes busy. When I mindlessly watch tv and zone out is when I eat the most. Find a hobby you like, maybe reading, jewelry making, painting. Anything that is relaxing and keeps your attention off the junk food.0

I just had a thought. A lot of people can push themselves harder physically when they're a little stoned. Maybe try putting on a yoga or workout video or putting on your headphones and dancing till you drop... Just an idea.0

I like sweets when I'm stoned which caused a big problem with my waist line.
I've recently started making crystal light Popsicles and that REALLY helps.
I just mix up some crystal light and pour it into my Popsicle mold I bought at the dollar store and go to town. They are yummy and hit that sweet I crave without packing on the calories. Another upside is popsicles take a while to eat so you're not scrounging for a new snack right away. Low calorie popcorn is a good one. You can mindlessly munch the whole bag without too much guilt.

I can completely relate to this. Just change your routine. After you smoke, do some light yoga. It's pretty much the best "me" time possible. The yoga distracts you from wanting to eat and really lets you relax.
It's fair to say that if everyone ended their day this way, the world would be a much happier place.0 -
I agree with the above poster! I like to smoke and then do some yoga or stretching, or go for a walk. Sometimes I'll smoke and then go on my exercise bike. It actually really gets me into "the zone" and I enjoy exercising.
If you know it's an everyday issue, then plan for it. Make sure you have enough calories saved for your evening. I drink a ton of (caffeine free) tea in the evenings as it helps curb my munchies. I have so many different flavours that it's fun to choose which one I'd like to drink.
Also, popcorn, chocolate chips (eat them one at a time! They are surprisingly good like this), apple and peanut butter.
A spotted banana, mashed up with 1 tsp cocoa (or other flavour you like), then frozen - viola! Healthy chocolate ice-cream
Another trick that works for me is just a psychological trick: I tidy up the kitchen and then turn out all the lights. I announce to myself "Kitchen's Closed!!", and then don't go back there for the rest of the evening.0
