Why you don't Excercise

Heh heh. I read "Poople" and thought of "Popples". Remember these little guys?

Exercise has very little to do with losing weight. Exercise is for fitness. losing weight is mostly done through eating correctly, at a deficit. No one said you had to exercise to lose weight. OP said people are "out of shape", not overweight.
OP has no idea if someone is "out of shape" unless they're basing it on weight. I don't think they're out giving fitness tests to "all" the people around them.
OP's post is all about people claiming they don't have enough time to exercise, so yes, his post is also about exercise.
Err no it's not.
He looks at people believes they are all out of shape by how they look and assumes they are claiming they don't have time.
I doubt he did a poll of all these people to decide
A) if they're out if shape
b) why they don't exercise.
Op judged people by appearance and jumped to a bunch of conclusions.

OP is assuming people are "out-of-shape" by simply looking at them... Hence why he said "I look around me at people. they are all...ALL out of shape." He's deciding whether a person is out-of-shape or not based solely on looks.0 -

Whatever your goals are. Just be aware, being skinny is an aesthetic goal that can be done with just restriction of calories. "Health" comes from good nutrition & exercise.
There's a big difference between getting skinny via the Twinkie Diet, vs proper diet & exercise
I am very much aware of this. But as my health is bad anyway... (I have a bleeding disorder that, no, is not going to be helped by any amount of vegetables or exercise). I always make sure to hit my protein goals so that I can try to retain muscle. I FEEL fine though. And isn't that what the 'health' goal is about? Feeling healthy? But I already feel healthy, so there's no need for me to exercise to do so. I also never said what my diet was like. We have never had twinkies in the UK0 -

Then he picked a random website and decided it was because they all don't have time and chose to lecture us on how we do have the time.0 -
I struggle to work out and have a ton of excuses I know I need to get over. I work full time (60+ hours a week), have kids, live in a tiny town that has one crappy gym that is never open and even if it was open more I'd have no one to watch my kids, I dislocated my shoulder a few years ago and it still hurts like crazy when I lift weights or do too many reps of anything that uses that arm...my house is tiny so finding space to workout in it is hard ( I kicked my three year old in the head last time I tried.) If I worked out in the morning I'd end up waking the kids up. And I just plain get bored really easy with it. Oh and I also have really big tatas and I've yet found a sports bra supportive enough for any type of running or jumping...I usually wear a regular bra with two sports bras on top and it's still not enough to prevent getting a black eye.0

Okay, I think I phrased that wrong. I agree with you guys that there are assumptions being made about whether people were exercising or not.
However, there is ALSO a separate discussion being had about why prioritizing time to exercise isn't always the best option for people at certain times in their life, and I misread the first post I quoted as saying that the OP wasn't talking about exercise. My bad!0 -
That's just the number 1 excuse that people give. The real reason people don't exercise is because they do not WANT to exercise. They are lazy and would rather do something else, period.0

Reading comprehension is lacking by some of today's posters. Instead of taking statements as a whole they pick a word or two and jump on that.0 -

I was the queen of excuses. Name one, I probably used it to justify why I didn't work out.
Some of my favorites in no particular order:
"I can't afford a gym membership" (As I shuffle to the grocery store to purchase bottles of wine)
"I don't have time" (Oh wait... Real Housewives of ______ is on...I've got time to watch that!)
"I don't want to be judged at the gym" (biggest load of crap I ever tried to believe)
"I'll lose my parking spot if I go this late" (I live in Chicago and while parking is tough on my street... it's not that bad)
"I'm tired" (Little did I know at the time that I had a TON more energy after starting to work out)
"It's boring" (Again.... little did I know how fun beating PRs could be)

Nobody just HAS the time to exercise, you have to MAKE time because it's important. I work full time and have a 6 month old son and I find myself feeling guilty going to the gym 3-4 days a week for about 1.5-2 hours a go (with drive time, changing, exercise class, showering...) because I leave my son home with my husband. Then last night as I watched my super cranky, don't-put-me-down baby until his bedtime at 8 p.m. (my bedtime was 9:30, haha) while he played video games and went out with his friends, SCREW GUILT, I'm taking my 6-8 hours a week of me-time at the gym and I'm going to glory in it. You just have to make the choice to spend that me-time on your health rather than sitting on the couch watching the boob-tube. Now I didn't exercise yesterday because by the time kiddo was in bed I had laundry, dishes, and homework to catch up on (some of which is exercise in and of itself), but I went Monday and I'm going today, so there's that. Some days it's hard to make the time, and like lots of people said, if you have time to watch TV, you have time to exercise - it's a question of priorities. I stuck an elliptical in my living room so I can get some cardio time in while I watch the hockey game.0
-
There are 3 reasons I don't work out.
1. Injury
2. Illness
3. I just plain don't want to.
I don't make excuses typically, I do it or I don't.

I chose to drink beer instead of going to the gym last night. It was a good decision for yesterday.
Love the popple post @VeryKatie.
I normally choose to find the time to workout so that when my diet (diet as in the food I eat, not some lemon water cleanse) makes me skinny, I won't be skinny fat. What would be the point?

I have it right in my profile.... I have 2 young kids, I work full-time, I have a good relationship with my husband, I keep the house tidy and make all the meals, I just finished a bachelor's degree as a full-time student, AND I spend time with friends on the weekends. Nobody truly DOESN'T HAVE TIME to exercise.
Inspiring. I work full time, have 1 kid, go to school part-time for my BA, and my house is a disaster most of the time, but I'm making the time to exercise. It just ends up being a priority over things like putting away the clean laundry. Who cares about a few wrinkles, anyway? I mean, it's CLEAN... Good enough, right?0 -

*shrug*
Just because your life is busy does not mean there aren't others even busier than you. There are people with no time to exercise. It's just very rare that when someone says that it is actually the case.0 -

It's actually really funny that you posted this now, because I just found this article about why people don't exercise.
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/18/how-mindfulness-can-jumpstart-our-exercise-routines/?ref=health&smid=tw-nytimes&_r=0
I really liked the article simply because I could relate to it. It was never a matter of time to me, but rather changing my mental state. Instead of going to the gym to get a work out over with and hurry out, I take the time to stretch, to try and do better than I did yesterday, and to focus on something as simple as my breathing.0 -

I have a gym a block away (part of the reason i desperately wanted the job lol) and try to use it on days when work isn't crazy, though often it's easier to just go after work as I rarely take lunch breaks. What are 400m repeats? I'd love to run more - running triggers my asthma so I have to go slow and steady (or intense but short) but I'd love to be able to run at a decent pace for an hour someday.0 -

It's speed work. I do a warm up then run 400m at just faster than my 5k pace, rest for about 1 1/2 minutes then repeat until dead.* then walk back to work as a cool down.
* I'm building up how many I do, I started with 4 aiming to do 8 each session.

I need to exercise. I use that time to clear my head, decompress from the day or just to have some time where I cannot be bothered by anyone. I like feeling totally disconnected even it is just for a hour or so. However, I will listen to my body and if my energy level feels off or something just doesn't feel right I will take that day as a rest day although I will get slightly annoyed.
I think it is all personal. It is not my place to wonder why someone doesn't exercise just as it is not anyone's business why I run so much.0 -
