Weight Gain with the implant??

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone had gained weight after having the implant? I got a nexplanon implant fitted a year ago and I'm about 17lbs heavier now. I'm certainly not ruling out excessive eating as a reason for weight gain as over winter I have not been eating right at all but when I do try to lose weight it seems a lot harder than last time (I lost 14lbs in 2013). I seem to gain it so easy and it doesn't fluctuate like it used to. And if it doesn't cause weight gain, does anyone know if it contributes to tendencies that do e.g. larger appetite, lack of motivation etc...
I just want to know whether the gain is completely down to me and my bad habits or the implant so I can figure out how I go about trying to lose some.

Science says no, there's no connection between weight gain and hormonal birth control. Most of it is confirmation bias.

Over time, most people gain weight these days. The average American gains roughly 3.3 lbs every 4 years. (http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1014296). I don't think it's that hard to gain 17 lbs in a year. 17 lbs * 3,500 calories in 1 lb divided by 365 days = To gain 17 lbs in one year, you would have to eat 163 calories over maintenance every day for a year (your maintenance calories would slowly rise as well).

I had the same implant put in last august and in the first month put 7 pound on restricted my diet and lost it again within 2 weeks and started really watching what I eat but was constantly hungry and felt hormonal like I was due on my periods every day was struggling to keep control of my appetite and id ended up putting a stone on again by christmas so I got it out in jan and started on MFP and almost instantly the appetite shrank and no cravings I've now lost a stone in 45 days and feel so much better,
