Hi Nicole, If you don't mind, I'm curious to know what's your definition of too much Carbs ?

What you eat is not nearly important as the calorie count of what you eat.

For some, what they eat is more important :)

In terms of weight loss, it's literally the only thing that matters in a normally functioning body.

Alright, let me add my usual caveat: Unless you have an underlying medical condition....

That said, I highly doubt the OP has a problem other than misinformation as to the effect of carbs on weight loss.

I would only consider it as "too many" carbs, if they block you from hitting the minimum fat and protein requirements (these should be higher than MFP gives you) or from getting your required micros (vitamins and minerals)

Going over your carb goal just means that your ratio was a little off that day, which is probably not ideal but in practice wont hurt your weight loss. You'll lose weight by your calorie expenditure being more than your calorie intake, regardless of where said calories come from, so you're fine.

Eat beans -- they have carbs and protein. Nuts too.

    ^this.

For weight loss, calories in vs out.

For health, more protein and fat, Fiber would probably be ideal but no one is perfect. I enjoy my days here or there when I'm not so strategic with nutrient goals.

For a healthy person with no metabolic issues, weight loss is only dependent on calorie deficits. MFP calculates your macros (carb/fat/protein ratios) based on the assumption that you do not have any health issues.

It looks like you are fairly new to MFP and only have a few pounds to lose. I would suggest sticking to the MFP recommendations for at least 4 weeks and seeing how it affects you and whether you see any weight loss.

    Best of luck!

If you stay under your calories? And you don't have PCOS or insulin resistance etc? Probably. I personally would find it very very hard to consistently eat at a deficit if 70% of my calories came from carbs. But you may do fine with that.

In that case then you need to figure it out. You are not meeting protein and fat so then eating all those carbs is a problem.

Actually, nuts are mostly fat, but they're the "good" fats that lower cholesterol. You do have to be mindful of portion size with nuts. A small handful of nuts (1/4 cup) typically runs around 170 calories whereas a serving of beans (1 cup) checks in at about 40 calories. I don't think anyone ever became overweight eating too many beans! Good thing too because fresh beans (and peas) from the garden are one of the great food joys of summertime.
