Weight gain after bootcamp (4times/week) and Zumba (2times/week)

Hi,
I am 5'4, 31 year old female. I lost about 18 lbs in 2013 strictly with high protein low carb diet. I gained 10 lbs back in 2014 and this year I am trying to lose weight and get back to my original weight. I joined bootcamp and Zumba classes and within 1 and half weeks I gained 2 lbs. I heard that it can be either water weight or muscle gain. My instructor looked at my diary on myfitnesspal and told me that I am eating too less and whenever I eat, I am having a dense meal. I am feeling very disappointed that even after working out so hard I am not losing lbs but instead gaining them.
I am burning about 500 calories in bootcamp and I am vegetarian so can someone please suggest a sample diet that is good for weight loss?

It sounds like you have the same problem as me. I struggle with putting weight on rather than lose it when I am exercising more. In my case , it actually came down to the fact that I was not being really and truly realistic about what was going in!,.i was always hungry from hardcore exercise. So eating loads of healthy food was just sending my calories way over.
I had a diet plan written for me, I am also a vegetarian.Here is an example of what I had yesterday. Last night I did kettlercise, I never eat back my calories. I eat between 1500-1800 a day. Very happy to share the monthly plan with you.
Breakfast- pint of water and a multi vitamin
Coffee
All bran with unsweetened almond milk (sprinkled with a teaspoon of linseed)
Bananas
Snack.(10.00am) flapjack (no refined sugar, from a sugar free recipe I found online)
Lunch - I made 100g of cous cous in lots of chilli, turmeric and cayenne spices, I then added, rocket, beetroot, peppers, onion, asparagus (all raw) and tomatoes.
Snack (3.00ish) homemade chocolate cake
Dinner - Tuna steak, sweet potatoes wedges with smoked paprika with carrots and cabbage.
Evening snack - Apple.
This is only one day, but being so structured as meant that I can get a grip of what's going in. I am now losing a steady 2-3 pounds per week.

In addition, weight loss isn't linear, and temporary water retention after vigorous exercise is common. It isn't muscle gain though because muscle doesn't form that quickly.
As for diet, just whatever you normally eat but less of it as, a few and relatively rare medical issues aside, a calorie deficit is all that matters. Your weight regain should tell you why you should avoid unsustainable fad diets.

Plus your trainer points out that you're eating too dense meals :huh: ...what on earth is that mumbo-jumbo? If you are meeting your calorie defecit accurately weighing and logging and you aren't overestimating your calorie burn (eg only eat back 50%) you will lose weight

Hi,
What a strange response from Herrspoons , someone needs to go out and socialise a little more!!!!. I said I am eating a vegetarian diet, I never mentioned fish, or plants.
Why not put one of your own problems on here, asking for advise as you clearly have several. People are asking for help and advice; negativity is not a nice trait. There are other forums in which I feel you may be better recieved.

You mention fish right here or are you saying you're a vegetarian that eats fish as well? I don't believe he was wrong. If you're working out but still gaining weight then most likely, barring medical conditions your intake is higher then your output.0 -
2 weeks is too short a timeframe to really distinguish between a change in water weight and an increase in body mass. If OP notices after 2 more weeks her weight hasn't dropped, then as Herrspoons stated:herrspoons wrote: »You are consuming more than you think and burning less.0

You haven't gained any appreciable muscle in one week, especially if you're eating at a deficit. It's most likely water weight from your new workout routine.0

Simmer down. You actually did mention fish. Tuna is fish, so are you a pesco-vegetarian?
OP I would give it a couple or few more weeks before you worry. It most likely is water retention since you just started bootcamp and Zumba. It is not muscle gain.
...that is as long as you are weighing and measuring all solids and liquids and know for sure that you are definitely in a deficit.0 -
I believe the word you are looking for is pescitarian, not vegetarian. Typically vegetarians don't eat fish because fish is not a plant.0

Thanks a lot guys! This helps a lot. I think I might be overestimating my bootcamp and Zumba calories as I am pretty sure I am not overestimating food calories. Other thing is that this time I am not avoiding carbs like last time. I am not sure if that has anything to do with this. I have seen this water retention effect previously so I am going to assume its combination of all of these things. Anyway, I will finish this 6 week bootcamp and see if anything changes after few weeks.0

UPDATE: Looks like it was a water weight after all. This morning I lost those 2 extra lbs. Thanks again guys!0
