Dear Yogis: best poses for the coveted "yoga butt?" Squats killed my back so I have to let them go. Suggestions are appreciated!

It was probably your form. Try to work with a good personal trainer. If you're unable to do that, do split squats (check Youtube) and also sprint or do the stepmill. Yoga is a distant second.

The Chair, Warrior 1,2 and 3, Bridge, Upward Plank, Extended Triangle to name a few that really engage the glutes, hamstrings and hip-flexors. You can also try bulgarian single leg squats and sumo or goblin squats as alternatives to regular squats. I disagree that Yoga is a distant second, anyone who does Yoga and holds the poses for 5 to 10 long, deep breaths knows exactly how engaged the muscles become.0
