Hi! Welcome here! Some people are fine, others can get snarky.. But you'll find good advice when you need it!

It's pretty friendly. There are all types of people on here like any other chat forum. I've been on MFP for a couple years and have made a few real friends and come on here to chat once in a while. Lots of advice, some good, some not so good, some pretty radical. For me, it's a no brainer most of the time. Eat the right carbs, proteins and fats and watch the quantity. Get out and move around. Welcome, Tom.

Is the community friendly? Not really.

But it is awesome and I have loved it here for the past 4 years. It's the kind of place where you can find good information if you want it, you will get called on it if you post something that isn't correct, and people are both wonderful and snarky. You get out what you put in, like most places.

Well it always seemed in the UK that to go out for a run you should only be an athlete, the last few years the increase of people out on the road has increased and the ability to admit it is attached with ridicule. Pathetic I know but that was the situation

I have been using MFP off and on for the last 5 years. If you mind your business, develop a small group, eat right, and move around - You will be just fine! I have a small group that I've followed, encouraged, and received great advice from. Wish you the best!
  • I've found that 75% of the people are friendly, supportive and motivating. The other 25% think this is tinder or match.com. Good luck to you!

About as friendly as other internet communities, meaning you'll still find your share of people only looking to start a fight.

Make sure you search a question to see if it's already been asked before you bring it up in the forums again. That's one way to get called out. Other than that, it can be quite entertaining at times.
  • Welcome Tom! I hope you enjoy the app and the community. If you would like a new friend feel free to add me!
  • Hi Tom. I'm new too. I find doing it on my own makes it harder to focus. Having a site like this to turn to is great as long as the haters mind their own business and remain polite. It's like some people get their calories from devouring other people's happiness!
I'm not one of them and you seem here for a great reason so if you'd like to be friends I'm on board with ya!
  • Hi Tom,
Lots of good advice here and I would agree with finding supportive friends they are a must. Takes time as some add you then never say another word but others are full of encouragement.
My motto is 'A like takes a second, a comment takes a minute, the effect can last all day!'
I am UK too...Add me if you have space for a fellow Brit.!
