Goodbye wine...I'll miss you

I wish I liked wine as much as craft beer... Most wines are much lower calorie than the beers I drink0

I like one glass of wine a night. Since I started the diet just a few days ago, I haven't had any wine, but will soon add it back in to my diet and see what the result is. I think we should start our own "whine-ing about no wine" group. Add me as your friend, we will "whine" together!0

Huh. Minimum 24-36oz beer daily - wonder how that happened..............
Your way is fine. Others' ways are fine. To each his own.
That would be exactly my point - I have my defecit set to 1/2 lb per week. My 25lb weight loss is ove the course of 14 months. This is not a race to the finish. I fail to see the difference between giving up gluten products, ]sugar products, "white" products or beer and wine.
It's all demonizing of food groups.
And Sabine - my daily calorie allowance is 2150. I lift twice a week, run 3 mile once or twice, do yoga and take the dog for long walks on the weekend.
But as you say - to each their own.
No one (certainly not the OP, she adores wine) is demonizing wine or other foods on this thread. They're just choosing HOW they create a deficit. Don't be dramatic.
ETA but again: never mind. Not worth the effort.
yup agreed.
Glad we agree.0 -
My husband and I both enjoy our weekend happy hours...the hard part is keeping it to the weekends!! We are both serious about enjoying it only Friday and Saturday and to keep it off the table during the week....its so hard lol!!! We really enjoy it as well. I agree with the fact it brings on the munchies as well. I have a long way to go but life is short....right.....helloooo0

I love all types of alcohol. Wine used to be my go to especially when getting together with my friends. Now I drink Smirnoff sorbet vodka, usually the raspberry flavor. It's only 78 calories a for 1.5 oz which is plenty of liqour in one drink for me with taking in such few calories. I mix it with water and zero calorie crystal light lemonade packets. This helps keep the calorie count down and keeps me hydrated which prevents hangovers. I'll have a couple of glasses of this without much guilt especially if I get a good workout in the morning.0

That's the awesome thing about MFP! You can eat or drink whatever you want as long as it's accounted for! I drink wine on the reg and have lost almost 30 lbs. 4 pounds away from my goal. Drink up!0

Give up wine? Just cut down the serving. I'd rather drink less but drink every day. Besides red wine is good for you.0
-
I love wine, but I've limited myself to not keeping it in the house and only drinking on weekends. So I have to go out and pay for it if I want it! haha it makes it easier to avoid.0

I hear ya. I sadly had a bottle yesterday, while staying in my goal of 1350cal. NOT HEALTHY. Need to get on this boat.0

It is a habit just like everything else.
I didn't have a drink for over 6 years. I allow myself wine now but I find that I don't want it any more, and I was a serious every night drinker.
It is like everything else, you can be slim whilst drinking (I have met MANY skinny alcoholics! lol).
It just depends how much you want to drink calories. x0 -
I love my wine.... I usually only drink it on Fridays and Saturday nights, but I am finding myself having at least 2-3 glasses nightly this past week since my hubby is working days. I have been making sure it fits into my calories and with one glass at 112 cal it can be hard. I try not to eat when I drink because its too easy to mindlessly eat while drinking. I am counting down the days till he goes back to working nights sunday night.0

Just drink a gin and tonic instead-more bang for your calorie buck!
Jk...kind of...
I won't give up wine. But I will say that MFP is definitely steering me not to drink wine or beer before/with dinner anymore. I still let myself have wine when I go out for dinner though, because like...why would you let good food taste sad?
Maybe if I cut back on carbs in another area earlier in the day, the wine would balance out, and also the two glasses would go further?

That's a great point. Sure, we can make 4.5 glasses of wine fit in a deficit (iffym etc.) but that's not a particularly healthy thing to do on a regular basis. Once in a while, sure. But we're not fueling our bodies when we do that.
We can have one glass a night (in place of dessert). For many, one isn't "worth it", and they'd rather have 0 or 3.
We can have 3-4 on a friday night.
Each of us needs to decide what works for us, in reality.0 -

After stopping drinking it (because one glass leads to a bottle) I eat much less calories the week before valentines day so I could drink lots of red wine and eat everything but watch out I would never get drunk before after one prosseco and half a glass of wine I was so drunk!!! I never really got drunk before this so this was very embarrassing haha my boyfriend has never let me forget it and now I am scared to drink!!! Haha anyone else experienced this?

I love wine, too! I've had to cut my wine drinking down to weekends only to lose weight and this works great for me. I tried the Skinny Girl wines which are okay, the reds are better tasting than the whites, in my opinion. But I love a good chardonnay, so I'm sticking to the better brands if I decide to drink at all.0

Me too, I'm a wino. But I like the challenge of no wine till I drop ten. Alcohol has to burn off before any others calories are burned. So it's best to avoid.0
-
I needed to cut wine out to get jump started. I only get 1250 calories a day (more when I go to bootcamp) but as a glass of chardonnay has 150 calories that really cuts into my food. So...three days now without wine, and the scale is moving already. As soon as I lose 10 lbs, as a "reward" I'll begin having wine again but on days when I don't go to class I can only have one glass. It just doesn't leave enough calories to get nutrition.

I tried to give up wine since starting this 2 weeks ago but after a particularly stressful day with the kids yesterday I cracked and allowed myself a small glass once they were in bed. I was still within calorie allowance though so I guess I'll just enjoy it every once in a while, like everything else that I love!0

i love wine - bourbon the most though. i only have alcohol on fridays or saturdays though, and never more than 2 glasses- screws up my sleep cylce and i always feel off the next day.0

I gave up beer for Lent. All that did was allow me to discover that Pinnacle tropical punch vodka and Sprite Zero is delicious.0
