Anyone lose inches quicker than pounds?

Or is it just me? I'm 156 pounds, having lost 8 pounds so far (yey!), but my weight seems to have come to a standstill the past week or so (i know, i know, i'm supposed to lose about 1-2 pounds per week, but i always lose weight faster than it, usually the minute i cut out all of the sugar i eat, my weight goes back down to normal in a couple of weeks). Lately though, my weights paused at 156, however, i've lost inches in the past 2 weeks.
I've gone from 40 inch hips to 38, a 31 inch waist to 28.5 and my bust has gone down an inch.
It just seems strange that although i'm losing the inches, i'm not losing the weight?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I'm just the opposite. I drop weight but not inches. Curious!0

I totally know what you are going through! I haven't lost much weight at all, but lost a lot of inches. I don't know the reasoning behind this, but yeah it happens! haha0

im with you!0 -
your losing inches because your toning up.0

I always lose inches first and then the pounds start coming off.0

I have lost pants sizes but the poundage still seams as if it's a standstill. I only lost ten pounds but I'm almost into my second smaller pants size. I can see a huge difference in my body. I've been working out a lot though so that may have something to do with it. I am one to focus too much on the number so this has been so frustrating for me as well.0

I did wonder if that was the case...i just thought that it would have taken alot longer, i've only been at this two months, exercise every day but not an extreme amount.
I'm not complaining! I just find it so weird, i'd have thought it'd be weight then inches!0 -
I lose inches first as well and then weight later. I think because I'm building muscle first and then when muscle growth stalls the weight drops due to the fat loss.0

are you exercising??? cause you may be replacing fat to muscle, and muscle weighs more. so losing inches makes good sense if this is the case. Just a thought. Sounds like your doing great one way or another Connie0

I didn't really notice with myself, but I think I rather that be the case.0

I concentrate on my weight alot! A couple of people have asked if i've lost weight and i've just been like: "well...technically no, but i am a little thinner!"
They just look at me like i'ma crazy person :P0 -
I've dropped a pant size, but my weight has not change much since early April.0

I've been losing inches like crazy the last month or so. My weight isn't moving (which is okay with me since I'm at my goal weight), but I can definitely tell the inches are going waaay down. I truly believe it is because I've stopped doing as much cardio and do more cardio/strength training.0

 It's totally normal! It's the trade off between losing weight and building muscle/toning. The muscle weighs more than fat, so when you are toning up you may gain a little or stay at the same weight. Don't panic, it the inches that matter most!! Eventually the rest of your body will catch up. Muscle burns more calories!!0

I lose inches wayyyy before lbs0

stef, i am with you there! I go thru the same thing. :ohwell:0

I am the exact same way!0

I was loosing inches before weight back when I was tracking everything. I took a haitus, so I' right back where I started unfortunately, but I think that it is normal.
The way I see it, as long as you are loosing something, then you are starting to work towards your goal.0 -
I am that way, too. My guess is that you are losing body fat! We have a nifty scale that shows our body fat %, muscle %, and water % in addition to our weight. If you don't have such a scale or want a free way to check on things, track your measurements and plug them into this calculator: livestrong.com/tools/body-fat-calculator/ . I was amazed how a few inches here and there translate into huge fat loss!0

In four months I lost 4 pounds but I lost almost 10 inches...
I am just a denser person, so fat comes off of me slowly. I am also closer to my goal weight, so it is much easier for my body to tone (lose inches) rather than drop pounds.0 -

THAT'S GREAT! It means that you're burning fat and either retaining or gaining muscle. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you may retain the exact same weight by gaining muscle and losing fat. This happens to people on sensible weight/fat loss programs because you want to retain all of your muscle.
Whatever you're doing, it's right! Keep up the great work!0 -
Personally I would rather lose inches then weight.0

I am the same way. I am losing inches but the lbs are taking forever.0

I just asked this question a few days ago...this is a link that a friend gave me.Hope it helps http://www.sportsdoctor.com/articles/weight.html0

Me to, but there's something gratifying about being able to say, "I look different? Oh, it must be those 20 lbs that I lost!" LOL!0 -
Generally, the only people that should be concerned with weight loss are athletes trying to “make weight” for some type of competition. The average person (and almost everyone on here) is concerned with fat loss. The common comment I usually make on the matter is “if you just want to lose weight, then all you have to do is cut off a limb and I will personally guarantee that you will lose 10-20lbs or more in a matter of minutes.”
The best way to measure your progress is by calculating your body fat percentage. The following link is to a calculator that uses the US Navy formula which takes various body measurements and estimates your body fat percentage with a margin of error of about 2-3%.
http://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
If you are losing body fat (inches) then who cares what your body weight is? If you can get below a 20% body fat (which is consider an “athletic” build). I guarantee you will look better than someone at a lower body weight with a “fit” or “average” build.0 -
Hahha I am the same way!! I know even looking at myself that it looks like I've lost 20 pounds and losing two pants sizes that usually the amount.. but at this point I'm only at 13 so when people ask how much I am embarrassed because they think it's going to be some crazy number!0
