Yes, ask them to put the sauce in a shot glass, so after you finish the protein, you can just shoot the sauce.

Go with the sausage and sauerkraut. Hearty and relatively few calories.

I'll be going out to dinner tonight and pretty much the same scenario. What I do in these situations is order what I really want and divide the meal in half right away. I eat half at the restaurant & take the rest home. As for logging it, I just find the closest match in the database and call it a day. My husband does this as well & it's been working for both of us.

I'm always jealous of people who can do that. Most fancier restaurants like this have pretty small portions overall (ok the 7.5oz steak isn't small, but one sausage isn't that much food) and I can't imagine eating half of what's already arguably not enough food for me. I need volume.

    13M.

    GET 13M!

    Agreed, because goulash is awesome.

Also, I expect an update tomorrow with how awesome the food was. And if you're ridiculous like me, photos...

What I would do is... just get whatever I wanted that sounded the most delicious. ONE meal, no matter how high in calories, is not going to have any negative impact on your weight or health, just like one day of fasting wouldn't make someone thin.

Any time I based my meal choice on calories only, I've always left feeling unsatisfied. It doesn't sound like this is some place you eat regularly, so just enjoy a good meal and relax.

I'd go with 13M, skip the Spatzle if I was trying to eat lower calorie/fat. If I didn't care, it would be 18M....yummy fatty, carby mess!

I'd go for 3M because it looks delicious. Hopefully they have a decent wine list, an Alsatian Guwurztraminer would be really tasty with that dish. I'm still maintaining a deficit, at least on a weekly timeframe, so I'd account for all the cream sauce and other goodness by having a salad for lunch that day, a stroll after dinner, and possibly even another salad for breakfast the next morning. (I know I'm weird, I kind of like a nice crunchy salad for breakfast sometimes) Otherwise, I'd shrug it off as a good night out.

Food isn't "bad" for you at the level of one meal. Enjoy it, balance it out across your diet, and move on.

I tend to go for the steak, because you know the weight and can ask for the sauce on the side. The Spatzle will be fairly high in calories, if you like saurkraut, I'd get them to swap out for that and some seasonal vegetables.

This or 12M but only eat one sausage (they will be the high calorie item).

And it's not so much for weight loss, I just know it's bad for me (any of them) so i'm trying to minimise the crap I put in.

If it's not for weight loss, just order whatever you'd like and enjoy it. There are no "bad" items on that menu.

nah, it looks like their specialty is Swiss/German/Austrian style food. I'd save the lasagne for a night at a good Italian place.

And, at a good Italian place? THERE IS ONLY LASAGNE BOLOGNESE.

I did not really look up the place...so I did not realize that..

being Italian, my eyes went to lasagna and only lasagna...

Hmm for the most part a lot of that looks delish. I don't see where much of it would be unhealthy. Can't you just get what you want if you are not asking for weight loss purposes?

Edit: I should have scrolled down to see the link before answering

All of those option look pretty high calorie to me, so I'd say just get whichever sounds best and enjoy.

Yeah....I grew up in an area with lots of folks with Italian Heritage, I always thought Lasagne was an automatic delicious meal.

Then I went on a roadtrip in the US South. And ordered it in a diner on the way.

    HOLY ABOMINATION.

Do not trust God's Own Food to those who don't know how to do it right. Trust me.

If the sauerkraut that comes with the meats is traditionally made, it will have lots of beneficial bacteria in it, which helps you digest meats beautifully. Certain probiotics, such as the ones found in lacto-fermented vegetables, help you stay trim and healthy. A healthy microbiome absorbs and utilizes micro-nutrients more readily. Enjoy your meal!

I would have 11M and enjoy the hell out of it, then move on. They always have that dish on travel shows about Switzerland so it's on my must try list.

I would just enjoy. Personally, I'd go with either 13M, or 14M but sub the chips for mash and add a side of Spaetzle. Oh, and some sauerkraut, too. I'd want to make sure there's plenty leftover to take home for second dinner (ok, in the spirit of moderation, for tomorrow's dinner) ;). I like Germanic food :)
