Confusion on Calories

I really want to loose weight, and so far I lost 15 pounds.
I keep reading online that for women you need to only eat 1200 calories a day.
That's starvation to me.
So I decided that I used an online calculator to see what my weight is now and how many calories my body burns naturally which roughly rounded to 2990
So if I stick to 2000 calories a day, won't I loose weight?
I am really kind of confused.
This is the end of my first month of working out and I only lost weight the first 3 weeks, I go to the gym 6 days a week for 45 minutes.

Weight loss doesn't occur every week. You are doing fine so keep it up. You will need to lower calories as you lose since 2000 is maintenance for most women.0

Don't eat 1200. Works for some, but too extreme for others. If you feel that its starvation for you, then it probably is.
Try a few online calculator for determining what your daily needs are, everyone has different requirements..but if you lost 15 lbs already you must be doing something right. How fast did this happen? You do not want to be losing 5 lbs a week!!!!
Are you doing resistance training? I would recommend some also.
Friend me if you want support but please listen to people on this thread. Many people have been where you are and will be able to offer real advice.

I lost 15 pounds my first three weeks. I thought that was normal like I have been eating 2000 calories or whatever during that time so I dunno why all the sudden I stopped0

It could be a number of reasons. Sodium intake, hormones/where you are in your cycle, stress, lack of sleep, new/increase in exercise. There will always be days or weeks of no loss/gains. Today I was up a pound and a half, but I know that's due to a big. Sodium day and nearing TOM. Quick weight loss in the first few weeks is normal as you get rid of water weight, but you shouldn't expect to see anything more than 2 pounds a week.0

what calculator did you use and what are your stats?0

1200 calories is an aggressive weight loss goal for a sedentary female...women who workout need more...women who are bigger need more. Most people can eat more, they just don't have a clue.
You're doing just fine...how much have you lost? You should readjust your calorie goals every 10 Lbs or so. As you shrink, your calorie requisites also shrink.0 -
OP - if you are concerned about it you could just add 150 calories a week until you get near 2000 and see what happens...0

2990 calories seems much to high. When you set up your goals in MFP, it asks for height, weight and age and activity level, and calculates a daily calorie intake based on your basal metabolic rate. It also asks for your weight-loss goal in lb/week, and deducts 500 calories from your daily calorie intake goal for each lb/week of intended weight loss. Note that exercise you do and log into MFP should not be considered in the activity level you entered into your goals. The activity level in the goals is based on your normal daily activity, and for most people will be "sedentary" or "lightly active."

My doctor told me that women should stay between 1200-1500 calories per day. I personally have 150lbs to lose and it is actually pretty easy to stay within that amount of calorie intake.0

^bolded part - that a myth perpetuated by fashion magazines. The appropriate amount of calories varies for each person, and is dependent on many factors, such as height, weight, age, and activity levels.
If your calculations say your TDEE is 2990, you should have no trouble losing at 2000.
Good luck, it sounds like you're on the right track.0
