I've been on MyFitnessPal for 8 days, my calorie goal a day is 1200. I've lost 6 pounds in that amount of time. I usually lose and gain a lot at a time but I want to do this right.

People tend to lose some more in the beginning, and then it kind of evens out. What are your stats? (Height, weight, etc).

It's mostly water weight, and very normal when you start out. It'll taper off in another week or two.

I had a big drop my first week and it's evened out to about .5-1lb a week.

    Actually people have.

OP, age, height, weight, training regimen?

I'm 19, 167 after my weight loss, 5"5, and I ride horses once a week, try to do 10 minutes of cardio every couple days and I do a lot of ab and glute strengthening exercises.

Initial water weight drop is normal.
