Squats for sure (I'm assuming we're talking about the ones with a couple hundred pounds on your back).

I prefer both, since they emphasize different fitness skills. Squats emphasize strength, while lunges emphasize balance, hip & spine lateral stabilization, forward movement & deceleration (useful for sports), and of course strength. They complement each other perfectly, if the goal is overall fitness. For bodybuilding, they're an assistance exercise.

I do both, I have one general leg day - 1 week I do squats, the next time I do leg day I will do lunges instead. They're both difficult but probably lunges I would classify as killer at the end. I do them with dumbbells in hands. Typically follow squats or lunges set with leg curl machine or use yoga ball for hamstring curls.

If the question is what I like most, lunges. But both are needed.

I do them both every (quad focused) leg day.

I do heavy squats (135 building up to 225 or so). On squats my goal is to increase reps at each weight on each set (up to about 8 reps per set).

After squats I usually go right into 5x20 walking lunges, usually all at the same weight (right now I'm at about 100lbs). On lunges my goal might be to increase speed at a certain weight, or to increase the ease at which I finish all my sets. Then I'll move up by 10lbs when it becomes "easy".

I love squats for making me feel strong, but I love lunges for being the ONLY thing that makes me feel agile and coordinated at. I feel powerful AND explosive. They're the cardio of strength moves.

Squats, *kitten* to the grass. Super set lunges with leg extension for a nice wobbly leg effect lol

Lunges are evil. I do them on deadlift day.

Squats. I had knee surgery a couple of years ago. I have worked back up to heavy ATG squats, but for some reason, lunges make me nervous, like I'm going to mess up a knee! Super silly especially considering that lunges were a prescribed rehab exercise. It's a strange bit of insecurity. I should probably suck it up a do some once in awhile.
