Which protein powder do you use? Plant based or Whey or other?
I currently do hemp protein powder as its plant based and I find it easy to digest. Been wanting to try Vega or Sun Warrior but have heard mixed reviews about them.
There is also new Quest protein powder however I have read it is priced too high for the quantity.
I normally add protein powder to a almond milk blended with various fruits, yogurt, nuts/seeds etc...
I want to alternate between plant based and whey protein powder so I am not drinking the same thing all the time
Suggestions, tips, advice etc all welcome!!
Thanks!

I use Optimum Nutrition. 24Gm per serving. I have tried the strawberry and double rich chocolate so far, and both taste great. They are whey based for quick after workout protein and micronized so they mix super easy in a mixing bottle with no chunks.0

Syntha6. Great meal replacement0
-
MusclePharm, today I just picked up the birthday cake flavor...not bad lol0

I use Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard 100% Whey too. I have them in Double Chocolate and Vanilla. 24g protein in a 120-calorie full scoop.
And it looks something like this...

I use Gold Standard and also Pro7ein (which is a Nutrishop brand) because I like the combo of fast and slow digest protein...which there are many out there that have a blend and aren't just straight whey.0

Naturade Vegan Smart Vanilla when I'm buying, Vega when someone else is!0

Vega one0
-
Gold Standard whey. extreme milk chocolate0

General protein boost is USN Whey Protein Premium (double servings), and post workout is USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic. However I'm considering ditching the MFA, and making up my own PWO of Whey+carbs.0

I take Sun Warrior-Warrior Blend chocolate flavor. I don't get fancy with my shakes I just mix it with water. The taste is pretty good with just water, but it does taste a little gritty. I'm sure when you get fancy with it adding some type of milk, fruit, or yogurt it will taste phenomenal and cancel out the grittiness. It's a great protein and I feel great from it. I do wish it had more protein per scoop though (17g) but I just double or triple it.0 -

I am going to get one of those single packs and see how it tastes.
There were some concerns about lead(?) with this product, but I think its sorted out?

I have read about this one online, and its gotten good feedback online
Due to health reasons, I have to stay away from any soy based protein powders. I see that it does have soy lecithin...is that a significant amount? or is the protein strictly whey based in this powder?

Ideally, women need .5 - 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. So for a 140 lb woman that is 70 grams of protein for someone who is just trying to lose weight and 140 grams for someone who is moderately active. If it's a little of both, shoot for somewhere in the middle, say 130 grams. If you feel that there is no way that you can hit that 130-140 gram mark daily from taking in only food sources, then whey protein can get you to your goal. For anyone just starting out, I recommend Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey. Whey is a fast digesting protein and a lot of people use it for post workout to speed up protein synthesis which helps start your muscle recovery.
Protein sources such as fish, chicken, beef, pork and turkey consist of slower digesting proteins. These are best taken in when there is going to be an extended amount of time between meals.
This was great information. Thank you!

I use Natural Force Organic Whey Protein - OMG it tastes great, and it's ALL NATURAL. I talk to the owner over email - he's awesome. Very transparent company. I just started using it.
The industry is loaded with junk - and I was digesting it. This stuff is all natural - and these guys are passionate about their product.

It's pricey but well worth it.
If you can't do that, I suggest Legion Supplements - no sucralose - they use very good sweeteners including stevia (NO SUCRALOSE etc).

I will flip flop on both so I can dollar cost average the Natural Force product for now.0 -
trader joe's chocolate whey protein. it mixes well in milk and oatmeal. I'm toying with the idea of making dessert-cakes with it. protein packed cupcakes for post-run noms.
"tibby! tibby! you just ran five miles nonstop! what are you going to do next?"
"I'm gonna eat this cupcake." nom nom nom nom.0 -
Lean1 Chocolate Peanut Butter. It's by far the best I've ever had.
A little pricey... but just delicious. I only use water and 4-6 ice cubes. It's thick like a milkshake, no strange aftertaste... and I look forward to having one. It's almost like a treat!
Sometimes I add some extra peanut butter or just PB2 if I'm trying to keep my calories low.
Lean1 - Chocolate Peanut Butter Nutrition Shake, 2 scoops
Calories 230
Protein 20
Fat 6
Carbs 25
Sugar 6
Sodium 320

ON Gold Standard is clearly a favorite. I've tried the vanilla and extreme milk chocolate and hated both. The macros are on point, but I'm not a fan of the taste at all. I also tried using the chocolate one in protein pancakes and it was chalky and nasty, even with a recipe I'd used a million times with other powders.
I used a local brand of protein powder pretty much the whole time I was losing weight, but now I'm looking for something more reputable since there was some controversy over whether the macros listed on the nutritional label were accurate. Considering how much tastier it is that ANY of the protein powders I've tried since then, my guess is that it's really just carb/sugar powder, which sucks, but it's time to switch.
I'm cycling between Jym, Cellucor, and ISO-100 right now (all vanilla), and they're all alright. I'll never buy Jym, but it's not horrible when mixed with chocolate almond milk. Cellucor and ISO-100 are pretty close in taste, but I'm disappointed that Cellucor doesn't mix as well in a blender bottle. I've found that none of them do well in a blender, so I've taken protein smoothies out completely. It could be my blender, though.
I've also tried MRM (all natural), which was pretty good and mixed perfectly. I tried Phase 8 and Pronom, neither of which I was impressed with, but they weren't awful. Syntha 6 is really yummy, but the macros aren't that great if you're cutting.
Over the next few months, I've got plenty of samples waiting for me. More Cellucor flavors (Corfetti, Cookies & Cream, and Red Velvet), ON Gold Standard Cinnamon Graham Cracker, MusclePharm Cookies & Cream, Whey HD and Syntha 6 strawberry flavors, a bunch of Trutein flavors, and I think one or two others. Pretty excited to be trying out something other than vanilla.0 -

Sun Warrior Raw Vegan Vanilla...in my morning smoothie. I have also used Douglas Labs pea protein chocolate almond. Because I don't eat meat, I have to keep my eye on my protein and iron levels and I wasn't getting enough protein in my breakfast; the naturopath recommended these two. Once my current bucket of the SW powder is gone, i'm going to try the plain pea protein since it will mix better with breakfast veggie smoothies. Neither soy or whey proteins are an option for me and i have been pleasantly surprised at the palatability of these two although i haven't tried them with just water.0

I am extremely picky - hate the taste of artificial flavors and sweeteners in every protein powder I have ever tried. I use About Time 100% whey protein isolate, unflavored and unsweetened.
I like that I can make it taste like whatever I want, by additions of ingredients that I actually enjoy. I usually do spinach, banana, blueberry smoothies or banana with dark chocolate shavings.0 -
Optimum Nutrition. I don't find any protein powders to taste good, but this one is at least palatable. I think it has 24 grams of protein in a 120 calorie serving (which ends up being 4-8 oz depending on how potent you like it), so I can guzzle it pretty quick and be done.
ETA: I get the Double Rich Chocolate flavor.0 -
I use Nature's Best Unflavored Whey Isolate Protein and add my own flavors from fruit, greens, stevia, coconut oil, cocoa powder, chai seeds, etc. This protein dissolves very quickly and doesn't have that nasty protein powder taste.0

Now Sports Dutch Chocolate Pea Protein! Really yummy!0
-
complete nutrition dissolves in my coffee....so no more creamer0

For all the Canadians out there:
Canadian Protein 100% Premium Whey Isolate - 29g of protein per 122 calories.
I usually pick the Strawberry flavour but also like the Chocolate Peanut Butter!0
