What nobody tells you about losing weight

On a serious note - I lost a lot of weight and ended up having a gall bladder issue. Two years ago I dieted pretty hard which resulted in me developing gall stones. I ultimately had to have my gall bladder removed. This doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen.

Maybe that's what caused my gall stones. I read that there are so many potential causes, weight loss included. I see a surgeon in three weeks and hope it comes out.10 -

I firmly believe this is what caused my gallstones. When I as 20 I was rapidly losing weight and then developed horrible gallstones.6 -
Weight in, weight out. Cash in, cash out on new clothes.
Have gone from a size 16 to a size 6!114 -
I haven't lost weight yet but I really want to sit in a laundry basket. Is that weird? I see my niece & nephew doing it & I'm sad because I can't join them.98

That's funny. Whenever my personal trainer shows me a move that looks like the kids would do for fun, I think "this is gonna be a killer". And it is.

I do remember at my lowest weight that baths were not my friend because of being bony (omg bony lol). I doubled up a yoga mat and put it in the bath to sit on, which helped, but the stupid thing is buoyant! This led to it trying to escape me when I shifted my weight, so I need to find a new solution to that
@Mirabilis depending on where you live, you can buy special mats for the bath that sort of vacuum-stick to the bottom. Their idea is to be non -slip but they have the texture of a yoga mat, so provide a bit if padding, too, without the "float factor".13 -

How surprisingly good you'll feel. Like you don't notice aches and pains and how bad you look in pictures and then suddenly its 20/30/100 pounds later and you're like hot damn.35

1. For people (mainly men) to make completely inappropriate comments about me physically and then tell me that it was my problem, that I didn't know how to take a compliment, when I pointed out how inappropriate their comments were.
2. How my sister would go from hating me to hating me with a passion. We no longer speak she got so vile.
3. I never quite appreciated how other people can manage to make everything all about themselves. I mean clearly I lost weight just to make Jane at work feel bad. Obviously, I mean I just couldn't possibly have lost weight for myself. The number of people who've shown their true colours has been immense.
On the more positive front:
1. I had no idea how much energy I was lacking until I wasn't.
2. I love the way clothes fit now! It was really hard being short and apple shaped to find anything I felt comfortable in that didn't make me look square, now I can wear fitted clothes without worrying.
3. I've discovered an incredible love of strength training. It's something I always thought was a necessary evil, it never occurred to me how much I would enjoy doing it, and how much of a rush a new PB in squat or DL would give - I float for days afterwards.
4. I very very rarely get ill and more, and when I do I'm never as ill as I was.69 -
*You will learn who your real friends are.
*I was never fond of taking pictures. Now I'm always snapping a selfie lol
*How much energy I have! I used to always be so tired and grumpy.
*how much easier I can sleep.
*I'm now able to wear clothes I only dreamed of wearing and look damn good in them!34 -

I can relate to this. People often tell me how I am so lucky. I have a great saying for this " I know it's crazy isn't it? The harder I work the luckier I get"
Sorry but I'm so stealing this46 -
35 down, 50 to go
Boobs don't disappear, so much as they deflate. They look like sad water balloons now.
Seeing a new milestone number pop up on the scale can make your whole day better.
Strength training works.
Buying new clothes in new sizes is fun, but oh man is it pricey.
Eventually you stop being so hungry - there are days when I barely want dinner because my body doesn't trigger "I NEED FOOD" like it used to.
I'm cold all. the. time.
Drinking all that extra water helps your skin!
Healthy food is more expensive than junk.50 -
Having narrow-minded people with absolutely no clue about fitness tell you you must be on steroids because that's the only way you could have gone from where you were, to where you are now. (Basically everyone in the town I grew up in are racist rednecks that drink beer and hunt all day long)27

The jealousy amongst "friends" was something I was quite surprised at. Having done every diet known in the world and failed at every one , I of course saw sense and installed MFP. Therefore giving me the ability to eat whatever I wanted. One of my favourite haters at work used to say (when she saw me eating anything more than rabbit food). "Oooohhhh. Suzi is going to be a very disappointed girl when she weighs herself next, eating THAT". With a very joyful face. I just said "keep watching".... And the weight just dropped and dropped. How absolutely satisfying163

They dont tell you about:
1. nosy people. Im not at my goal weight, not even half way, but people seem to think that because I am working to lose weight I am comfortable talking about what I weight. Im not there yet, and I dont think anyone should have to share what they weigh.
2. That some days I'll get tired of eating. I'll feel like Ive eaten everything possible, not be at my goal and not be hungry.
3. That after doing abs, it hurts to cough the next day, and thats the day when you seem to need to cough most...26 -
Your shoes may no longer fit.
Don't be too quick to resize your wedding bands, most jewelers won't do it more than twice.
Find and make friends with your local consignment shop, don't splurge too much on clothes until you reach (and have stayed for a while at) goal.
Some of your friends and family members will not be supportive.
It's not a linear process (especially for us girls)! Some days/weeks you will not lose anything and that's okay. Stick to your plan.
This is great and all true.10 -

I feel like they're disrespecting the discipline and hard work it takes to be healthy ...
I say back, maybe YOU don't need to watch what you eat or YOU don't have to workout because your metabolism is incredible or you have lots of self control, but I'm not you.10 -
how good it feels to fit into an old pair of jeans or dress or shirt that hasn't for awhile
how much time and effort it takes to plan out your meals and workouts for a day or week
on the flip side, how satisfying it is to find the meals that work for you
how hard it is to break old habits (I still need my chocolate every day)
to have patience28
