Low Impact suggestions?

I was medically retired from the army due to stress fractures in my sacrum that refused to heal or just didn't heal right - I now get random lower back pain, hip and occasional shooting leg pain. Moving weights around I have found just aggravates the hell out of it so I've been doing cabled machines lately for strength training - I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on low impact exercises (Both Cardio and Strength) I could do that would maximize caloric burn but would cut down on the aggravation in my lower back / hips. I know Bike/Elliptical are low impact - which one generally burns more calories?

Any advice would be awesome, Thanks.

Have you tried swimming? Swimming is amazing for cardio health.

Bike vs Elliptical = You get out of it what you put into it.

You could also try swimming or rowing.

Swimming, Rowing, and my personal fav. the Cybex Arc trainer. Looks like an elliptical but doesn't hurt the knees, I personally cannot use the Elliptical for that reason. Cheers, hope you find something that works.
