It was easier to quit smoking than this!

I quit smoking nearly 11 years ago and have had an up and down weight problem ever since. Quitting smoking was EASY! I read that once you quit, the nicotine was out of your system within 72 hours, and they were right. After that, it was a year of seasons to get out of the habit. I was miserable the first two days, then it was a snap of relief. That quick! I cried for two weeks for not having quit a long time before I did.

But losing weight? When I was in my 40s, I told my young (17) obese niece that if she lost 35 pounds, I would quit smoking. She didn't, I didn't, but several years later, I did. I couldn't understand what her problem was. Now I know! My metabolism ran to Timbuktu once I quit smoking. Losing weight is far more harder! (grammatical error intended) Every single day for MONTHS I will have to watch what I eat. When I smoked, I could eat whatever I wanted and rarely gained a pound. And if I did, a couple of days of eating less than 1500 calories took it right off.

Thanks to all my friends for encouraging me to keep on keeping on! The results are finally starting to show!

One of the reasons I think quitting smoking was much easier for me as well was I could distance myself from cigarettes. After a little while so long and I wasn't around them I rarely thought about them. With food however, I can't just stop eating, so there was always that little thought to overindulge, just this once.
Congrats on sticking to it! It does get easier!
