I don't even know what a muscle bound jock is supposed to mean.... it just brings up porn when I google it. If he's just referring to lifters/bodybuilders/etc then uuugh. Especially since I primarily lift weights and my goal is to embark on bulk/cut cycles once I'm down another ~15lbs.

Like dude. whyyyyy.

I don't see a big difference in you calling someone an ego lifter and him calling someone a muscle bound jock. I think they are the same thing, different terms.....

    Am I missing something?

PS Holy porn when you google that phrase.

Maybe it's more of a reference to the "lunks" that planet fitness always advertises about. Although he could be just implying lifters in general as well.

She was talking about one person and one instance she observed. The friend was generalizing all people who have observable muscle mass.

That's not how I initially interpreted it, though you're probably right.

Anyway, my advice would be to just not engage.

I don't see how they are the same unless his term means someone who is lifting heavier than s/he should thus resulting in compromised form and partial (if that) reps?

Also I'm always super disappointed when I see ego lifting, so combining both the ego lifting and his cuteness just made me feel more disappointed and I felt the need to share lol. This is probably why I need gym friends to say these things.

which is sad because like.... my ultimate goal IS to have obvious visible muscle mass AND to also bulk up to increase said muscle mass. So like, good job generalizing about the population I want to be a part of (or if he means all people who lift weights in general, then for the population I am already a part of)!

Uh tell him his comment bothered you? Or defriend him? My friends constantly display different views/values/priorities than me and I somehow manage to not be upset...

At least this is what I refer to when I say ego lifting.

So like, the person benching 200lbs and only lowering the bar about 2 inches from the starting position is ego lifting. Or like when I saw some guy deadlifting a few hundred lbs and letting momentum do half the work (once he lifted the bar he'd just let it drop instead of actually lowering it, resulting in super loud clacks on the ground every. damn. rep.)

That's not ego lifting, that's just lack of knowledge. Generally I don't bother watching other people at the gym. Lots of people simply haven't had a trainer or someone to help them and they simply don't know any better.

There are times when people will do things in the gym that are generally wrong, but fit their circumstances. Like dropping the bar on a deadlift, they want to work the concentric but not the eccentric. There are also good times when bodybuilders will do partials for specific porpoises. Lunks, muscle bound jocks, it is best to avoid judging either way.

To be fair, we posted a minute apart, I was probably typing when your post was posted.
