    Or like when I saw some guy deadlifting a few hundred lbs and letting momentum do half the work (once he lifted the bar he'd just let it drop instead of actually lowering it, resulting in super loud clacks on the ground every. damn. rep.)
    That's not momentum, it's gravity. :P

    I do deadlifts that way too, at home, alone. I can't speak for others but I do that because the downhill requires an entirely different movement and screwing it up is an easy way to get injured, so I don't see the point in attempting to do it with heavy deadlifts.

    There are times when people will do things in the gym that are generally wrong, but fit their circumstances. Like dropping the bar on a deadlift, they want to work the concentric but not the eccentric. There are also good times when bodybuilders will do partials for specific porpoises. Lunks, muscle bound jocks, it is best to avoid judging either way.

    Good points! There are times where I do odd things, but they do have their purpose. Most of the lifting is the basics. There are exceptions.

    I don't even know what a muscle bound jock is supposed to mean.... it just brings up porn when I google it.
    Muscle bound = "anyone with more muscles than I have"

    Jock = athlete.

    Does anyone want to explain to me what ego lifting is?

    I wrote it above:
    someone who is lifting heavier than s/he should thus resulting in compromised form and partial (if that) reps
    At least this is what I refer to when I say ego lifting.

    So like, the person benching 200lbs and only lowering the bar about 2 inches from the starting position is ego lifting. Or like when I saw some guy deadlifting a few hundred lbs and letting momentum do half the work (once he lifted the bar he'd just let it drop instead of actually lowering it, resulting in super loud clacks on the ground every. damn. rep.)

    Who lowers the bar nicely after a deadlift?

    Ego lifting is a new term to me. It's not just what you do and how you do it that will get you judged, but also your motives. Fun fun.

    PS: I basically only lift for my ego. Who doesn't?

    I do these fake deadlifts where you put the weights up about an inch or so so you don't have to pull them so far. It is fake but it feeds my ego.

    And to the poster above, it is called a deadlift not a dead lower.
