Right, last week I had a 3 day binge, and by that I mean I ate whatever I wanted. I was naughty. I decided to weigh myself and it turns out I had gained 3lb. Would this be fat or waterweight? I have since lost 1 of those pounds.... I am guessing it is waterweight, surely? Anyway the scale is going in the right direction now since I got back on track.

Unless you ate 3500 x3 over your TDEE during your binge, I'm banking it was was water weight.

Depends on the size of the binge. Half fat and half water may be a reasonable guess.

    Does it really matter, though?

Well I don't think I ate THAT many calories, lol. Quite an impossible challenge, that.

Most would be water. But no one can really tell you, since we have no way of knowing if you ate 3500 cals over your maintenance cals for the 3 days. And even then, it is not necessarily that simple, especially if you've been eating at a deficit before.

Even if it IS like 1 lb of fat though, oh well, right? Like you say, you're back on track and the scale is going in the right direction. Stuff happens.

Well you would have to eat 10500 more calories than you're alloted on MFP in 3 days to gain 3 pounds? That's a lot of eating and drinking!

Probably water . who cares though, just move forward from here and you'll be fine. A few bad days wont wreck everything

I'm going on a night out on Friday, so a lot of drinking shall be done. That adds fuel to the fire. However, I will get back on track the next day again. The problem with socialising.

Drinking is not necessary for socializing - drinking is only necessary for drinking.

If you're going to go on/off like this, honestly, save yourself the grief and just go have a good time until you're ready. Because this path you're on isn't going to get you anything but frustration.

Yes, it is possible to consume that many calories over a 3 day binge. A night out at the bar with friends... pizza, alcohol, fried foods, dessert, etc, add up in a hurry if you're not tracking at all.

Probably a bit is water weight, but if it's been 3 days and it's still hanging around...

I agree with @Mr_Knight, it sounds like you're not ready to commit, even to eating at maintenance.

I agree with this. You have to be ready to stick to a calorie deficit most of the time. It took me a long time to get to that place, but it can be done.

Just track your binges next time, and then you'll have a better idea how much is water vs. fat.

I've done that in a single weekend(two days).

Water and the bulk of the food, and for some people, sodium, can make the "gain" register larger than the actual fat gain.

I mean I don't know if you're like me, but if you are, you can surely pack in 3500 extra calories over three days if bingeing. ;) (But even then, it would only be one pound.)

Lol, I've had binges where I go over 10,000 calories in a day, over 3-5 consecutive days. It's so painful, but it's not impossible. It's miserable though. At no point does it feel good.
