Hi guys, I have been using my heart rate monitor to give me an accurate calorie use count for each day. If I want to lose weight would I just take my total calories used for the day and create a deficit? For example: if my total for the day is 2500 (including exercise etc.) and I consume 2000 would the 500 cal deficit be enough?

I used to just consume 1200 a day but it's wasn't enough for me because I have a very physically demanding job.

I appreciate any advice :D

Are you wearing your HRM the whole day?
If so, it is not an accurate number. HRM calorie estimations are based on steady state cardio. They are essentially useless for low intensity activity that is most of day to day life.

I would recommend going to www.iifym.com They have great calculators that you can utilize to determine your daily calorie intake. The TDEE calculator calculates your total daily calorie expenditure.

I would go with the calorie count based on you hight/weight etc using MFP or another credible estimator and eat to that number less your desired weekly deficit (3500 for a pound etc) or what your doctor has suggested. I personally would avoid eating back exercise calories constantly, perhaps eat some back or save them up to have a fun night once a week. There are many opinions on the eating back exercise calories, it certainly can't hurt to not eat them back. It's all about creating as big a caloric deficit as you can, and that's reasonable. Just my 2c.
