In the past I've lost weight, gained it back [multiple times] and now I'm at square one again :s and weighing the most I've EVER weighed in my life.
What are the things you do to keep yourself on track?

  • It's hard to stay on track if you don't have a plan and preparation! I have found personally that support, motivation and preparation are what keep me on track , no ones perfect, but it's the small healthy decisions that we make daily that will eventually compound into great success if we just stay the course and focus on the goal! I set small goals sort of as stepping stones to my big goal and I know that if I stay strong I will reach them! And you can too!! Mind/Matter! My name is Jennifer and I'd love to help you and encourage you and be accountability partners! Send me a message if you're interested!

For me, personally? It's about eating MY WAY. For me, that's not having many sweets, HFCS, not a lot of heavily processed carbs. I find that for me: pastries etc., HFCS laden snacks and foods, and heavily processed carbs make me HUNGRY as hell, and craving more.
Avoiding them, most of the time and limiting them the rest of the time (by not having them in the house) made a world of difference.

I'm in maintenance, and have been for 14 years using this approach. It works for me. YMMV

I focus more on other factors than the number on the scale. For example: losing inches, buying new clothes because everything else is way too big, body fat % decreasing, able to workout longer or harder than I could before. I keep my measurements, weight, and body fat % in a book and write these down at least twice a month. It has been helpful to look over my book when I am feeling discouraged and then I have "proof" that I am making progress. Some people take pictures each month to see the comparison and changes in their body.

I have decided to up my calories to eat more even though my weight loss is slower. I enjoy food and love cooking, cutting my calories too low makes me miserable and I want to quit. I enjoy a home cooked cheeseburger about once a week, pizza about every ten days, and a small piece of chocolate every day if I want. I enjoy all foods in moderation most days (some days I go over and try to get back on track the next day before it spirals out of control and becomes the norm) and do not cut anything out of my diet (carbs, fats, or sugars).

I try to do exercises that I enjoy and not torture myself with activities that I dread. This definitely helps in not finding excuses to not work out each day! Also, I started with 20 minutes a day for three times a week and now I go about an hour about four times a week.

These are a few things that help me stay on this path and not lose my focus. I have days and sometimes a few weeks here and there that I don't exercise as much as I should or I eat fast food and drink pop to a calorie excess, but I shake out of it and get back on the wagon. You have to be willing to allow yourself to make mistakes without feeling guilty or discouraged by your "lack" of self-control. If this process was easy then everyone would be skinny again overnight! You can add me as a friend if you would like.

I got rid of all my clothes from 30 pounds ago. Now I have no choice but to fit into the size that fits me now. That helps quite a bit, because I can't afford to go buy all new work clothes.

I also have non-food rewards for hitting goals. I just backslid on my most recent goal so now I have to wait to go get a massage. :grumble:
  • Thanks everyone! ;)
I'm taking all of this in...and backing away from all of my boyfriend's artificially flavored snacks.
