Hi:
I do not live at that area.
Just wanted to share some suggestions:
Visit the existing gyms at the time you might be using them. Ask them if you could check the premises, before signing a contract. If the Gym is well managed they will have no problem.
Cleanliness is very important for me so I focus on that:
women's lockers, women's showers, Do they have disinfectant and paper for members to clean after use ?; If they have a pool: do they require a prior shower? do they have a swimsuit fast drier ?. Finally, do they have cleaning personnel around the clock ?.
I like to lift weights:
Do they have enough rack bars, bench presses, dumb bells and barbells for at least 12 people exercising at the same time ?
Good luck in your healthy journey0 -
I live in Menomonee Falls and belong to the Tri-County YMCA: http://www.gwcymca.org/locations/tri-county-ymca/
They have lots of equipment and classes, separate adult and kiddie pools, plus a full free weight area with two squat racks. It's not fancy, but it's clean, low-key, and gets the job done for me and my family. They also have a great, knowledgeable personal training staff.0 -
I don't know if you live nearby one but I belong to an Anytime Fitness. I really like mine. But mine is a very basic gym, weights, cardio equipment, no pool, limited showers, no pool. About $29 a month. Perfect for me because I live less than a quarter mile from the gym so I just walk there in nice weather.0

Hi 123cat, I live nearby in northern Waukesha!
I belonged to the Planet Fitness that opened up in Menomonee Falls last year and I liked it. I work up there so it was convenient to get a work out in and hop over to work. I got in for their $99/year promotion (no contract), and I used it for ~8months of it 2/3 times a week. Normally I think it's $10/mo, $10 down for basic membership, $20/mo for black card with tanning, and don't know about the contract. Definitely worth it if you just want a quick place to go to get a workout in. No pool of course. Not really any classes, but I think they have groups of people do the same thing at the same time at the circuit areas, I never did that. Pretty clean even during busy times as it was new, but of course PF seems to have a stigma that super fit people aren't allowed. I never saw that, but I'm not super fit! Clean showers, and they always had hairdryers and lockers available.
There are a few Anytime Fitness places around the area, and a Snap Fitness. I don't know much about those as I've never been. But I drive by them all the time!
Now we're looking at a family centered gym for a pool. Swimming is pretty much the only thing my 8-year-old daughter wants to do, and this will get my husband to go too! So, I think we're probably going to the YMCA like Ingrunert. There's the MF location, a Wauwatosa location, and the downtown Waukesha location that are probably all located about equidistant from you. $83/mo for family, i think individual is $59/mo. $10 discount after 12mos.
You also might want to look at the Wisconsin Athletic Club if you're looking for something a little more upscale, all of their facilities seem really nice. I've been in the Waukesha location and it's very clean and a bit more quiet than the Y. Not sure of prices, but I know the family rate is a lot higher than the Y, so we opted for the cheaper option. Most of their locations around Milwaukee have a pool. They do have kid friendly areas, but I felt it was more of an adults place. We might check them out later when my daughter gets older.
Oh, and there is Elite Sports Club in Brookfield. If you're into Tennis or something similar they're a great place to go. Good pool, good amenities. I think the rates are even higher than WAC, but I've heard great things about their facilities. I think there are 5 locations of this Club.
Good luck, you won't know until you give these places a tour! I know WAC has a trial membership for a couple of days if you want to try them out.0 -

Yes of course, but someone that belongs already has already experienced it and can give a true review.0
